Recap of the Sony E3 conference (and the pre-event) – info and trailers for over 25 new games!
The Sony conference at E3 last night was very good, and Sony has been doing great in terms of quality games in the last years. In this post I will recap most of the highlights from the event last night, so make sure to watch the trailers of the games you are most interested in.
Some of the trailers and info is from the pre-event, because time constraints prevented Sony from showing off everything at the main stage. However, this post will cover it all! Enjoy, and remember to leave a comment below if you got anything to share!
Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy
This remake of the original Crash Bandicoot trilogy finally got its launch trailer, and on June 30th, only a few days away, players can purchase this game for the PS4. I grew up with these three games, so I will absolutely get this, and I’m excited to see how the game will look in modern graphics.
There have been some concerns about the game not running smoothly when it was first showed off, but hopefully this has been taken care of before the game is released.
Life is Strange: Before the Storm
Life is Strange received praise when it was first released as an episodic story adventure game, and this sequel will keep the same main elements. The game will be divided into three parts, and you can probably buy them separately just like the original. It will release on August 31st, so there are still a few months left to wait.
Uncharted: A Lost Legacy
Uncharted has been one of the major single-player PS3/4 exclusives that Sony has spend a huge amount of money on, this this newest game will get released on August 22nd. The game originally started as a DLC, but later grow so big that it changed into a standalone game. If you have not yet played any of the Uncharted games I recommend that you pick up one of them for cheap and give it a go, because most of them are really good games.
Days Gone
Everybody loves open world survival games these days. Days Gone will be a PS4 exclusive title, and seems to be a pretty traditional zombie survival type of game. We already have a good amount of these to play, so hopefully the gameplay is really good, or else I think people might not be that interested.
Monster Hunter World
Monster Hunter World was announced at the Sony conference, but actually gets released for Xbox One and PC in addition to the PS4. The Monster Hunter series is well-known to be good games, but have a somewhat niche following due to mainly being released for the Nintendo platforms, but this will probably change it.
In Monster Hunter World you pretty much go around and kill giant dinosaurs, and if the gameplay is like the other games in the series, it will be very good. The graphics looks very beautiful in the trailer, and I’m sure this will be a big hit when it gets released in early 2018.
Shadow of the Colossus
Shadow of the Colossus will get a remake that is coming for PS4 sometime in 2018. The original game was for PS2, and this unique game was loved by many people, and a lot of them still think of this game as one of the best ever made. I think this remake will be a good opportunity for new players to try it, as well as giving the fans a chance to return to this amazing game with better graphics.
Call of Duty: WWII
Call of Duty is returning to the second world war with this game, and we got to see a gameplay reveal trailer during the Sony event last night. I’m sure this game will sell a lot of copies, and I’m excited to find out if they are returning the series to its roots, or just reskinning the Modern Warfare game into an older setting. It will be released on November 3rd for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
Horizon: Zero Dawn – The Frozen Wild
Horizon was a really good game, and I am sure this first DLC be a great addition to it. In this DLC we get to travel to a mysterious mountain to fight even more robot beasts, and I will for sure purchase it once it arrives. There is no release date just yet, but it will be sometime in 2017.
Since it is a DLC, you will need the original base game to be able to play this.
Playstation VR titles
Sony announced a line of several VR titles that be released during the next year, including Skyrim, The Inpatient, Superhot, Moss, Starchild, Bravo Team and No Heroes Allowed.
I can’t really say how these VR titles will turn out just by looking at the YouTube trailers, so I guess we need to wait and check it out once it gets released.
God of War
The God of War series have been away for a while, but it is finally returning. This PS4 exclusive game will be a soft reboot, and this time the story will take place in the world of norse mythology. It will be really interesting to see how Kratos will handle the cold north!
Detroit: Become Human
Detroit: Become Human is a brand new IP where we play as several different characters, all of the droids. If you die while playing, the character dies, and the game can be continued as one of the other characters, but this will affect the story with it. The developers have promised a changing world based on your decisions, so this is definitely a game to keep in mind once more info gets released.
New games in the Final Fantasy series
There are some upcoming games in the Final Fantasy series. One of them is a HD remaster version of Final Fantasy XII, which is a fan favorite among many players. I personally really look forward to this improved version, seeing as it’s one of my favorite Final Fantasy games.
Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood was also shown off during the event. On June 20th, this new expansion pack to the MMORPG gets released, featuring a lot of new content.
The last FF game to be shown off was the Dissidia Final Fantasy NT.
Destiny 2
Destiny 2 got some screen time as well. This game will be released for both Xbox One, PS4 and PC (where it will be sold on Battle.net). I have never tried to original game, so I have not spend a lot of time to look up this one, but I’m sure the fans of the series are really looking forward to the release on September 6th.
There will be some PS4 exclusive content that will only get released for sale on the two other systems one year after release.
Spider-Man
The new Spider-Man game will be a PS4 exclusive open-world game set in New York City. It seems to bit a bit of a mix between the Arkham-series and the Assassin’s Creed series in terms of stealth and combat, so this has a lot of potential if the gameplay is good!
Grand Turismo Sport
The Grand Turismo series is well-known to anyone who enjoys racing games, and it is in my opinion just as good as the Forza-series.
Marvel Vs Capcom: Infinite
If you like fighter games you might be interested in Marvel Vs Capcom: Infinite, a new game getting released on September 19th. It will be available for Xbox One, PS4 and PC, so everyone can get it. The reception has been very negative on the internet, but I suppose some people might still be interested in it.
Hidden Agenda
Hidden Agenda did not get any time on the main stage, but it seems very interesting anyway. I really don’t get why it was not included, but I guess they did not have the time for it. To me this game looks like it was heavily inspired by Heavy Rain, which was a pretty interesting game to play. The game will be a crime thriller where we follow a homicide detective and a district attorney on the trail of a serial killer.
What is really cool about it is PlayLink, which allows other players to influence the gameplay from an app on their smartphone. This plays with the name of the game, letting all players have their own hidden agenda.
Knack 2
I have not been able to play Knack yet, but this action platformer sequel looks pretty good to me. I might not really be the demographic for this game, but it is good that they are making exclusive children game for the PS4 in my opinion.
Strange Brigade
Another zombie shooter is set to be released, but this one takes place in the 1930s. It will feature up to 4 players working together to survive the zombies, and it can be interesting to see how this game ends up!
Everybody’s Golf
I’m not really a big fan of golfing games, but if you are this one is definitely worth checking out. Everybody’s Golf will be exclusive for PS4, and set to be released on August 30th this year.
Matterfall
We don’t really know a lot about Matterfall yet, but judging by the trailer, it looks like a sidescrolling shooter á la Metroid. Let’s keep our eyes out for future information about this game.
Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown
The newest game in the Ace Combat series is set to be released for both Xbox One, PC and PS4, but will have exclusive VR options for the PS4. It is set to be released sometimes in 2018, so it is still a long time yet, but I’m sure the fans of the series are already looking forward to it.
Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom
I really loved the original Ni No Kuni for PS3, and I’m without a doubt getting this at release date. This charming JRPG is made by Level-5 and has had a lot of help from Studio Ghibli for their cutscenes and animations. I fell in love with the first game, and I have high hopes for this one as well!
That was a bit depressing from Sony, I am excited for the Horizon Zero Dawn expansion but all thise other games are remade $80 jokes.
Yeah, they really love remakes of old games these days. I'm one of those people who actually spend full price on those HD remakes, so I can't complain myself :)
Finally a year without all-zombies games. Thanks for sharing.
Haha, well, there was a few zombie games hidden in between the other games :P
