Captains Log; Black Hole found
After a little marathon across the Elite: Dangerous Milky Way today, I finally got to my destination, a Black Hole over 20,000 light years from Earth.
The last day was not uneventful, we found a system of four stars in close orbit:
Not super unusual in game, but a pretty shot none the less, on the left the purple object is a brown dwarf star, they are very cool and are really almost a large gas giant, it has rings and we see a yellow/orange and two yellow stars shining through.
Skipping along a little later we found a very rare Earth-like planet:
This is human breathable atmosphere, just ready to be settled by us, if it was not so far away. In the middle is what looks like a moon, but in fact is another planet the same size and mass as the Earth-like, thus they orbit one another in a binary configuration.
Finally we come to the...
BLACK HOLE:
Unimpressed? Look carefully in the middle there is a tiny black dot, yeah, now you see it. What did you expect, an orange with lime green stripes object?
The fun part, is what happens if you fly close to the black hole:
Gravitational lensing as predicted by Einstein and observed in the real universe, its not the stars that are moving as I approach, nor the light that is bending, but the immense gravitaional forces deforming the fabric of space-time itself
Well thats that then, two weeks labour for 30 seconds of fun, we've all done that before, now havn't we? All I have to do now, is take my passengers on the 20,000 light year journey home, see you in a couple of weeks!
what IS this!! is this a new version of the game ELITE? i used to play on my 386 PC??? ;-))
Yes it is, I used to play the original in '85 on my ZX Spectrum.
The game now has around 400 billion star systems to explore and is a reasonable analogy if the real Milky Way. You can explore like I am now, or be a trader, bounty hunter, join a faction or do community goals.
oh boy! and NOW i know where yo've been lately!
damn.. those graphics got a bit better .. 400 billion star systems should keep you going...
im guessing you have some decent speakers and a big screen.. and maybe even forget you are still on planet earth after a long mission
Yeah, and a nice HOTAS joystick as well. The only tech I don't have is a VR headset, this game is awesome in VR apparently, but it's too expensive still.
I was wondering about the VR! Better not or we’ll never see u again!
Nor would the Mrs ;)
his and hers VR? lool! no dont go there
Far out! Literally... or virtually? ;) I like the gravitational lensing around the singularity... the game producers have obviously put a lot of thought into it.
Its actually quite disorienting, even just playing on a standard screen it gives you an odd sensation, playing in VR would be epic, cant justify that cost though.
I am very supportive for the delivery of your passengers on the way home.
