Monster Hunter World Preview - A unique game with a very loyal fanbase

in #gaming7 years ago (edited)

Only a few nights sleep and we can start with Monster Hunter World. A unique game with a very loyal fanbase. From 26 January, the console players can also enjoy this delicious series and in order to get a foretaste, we all went to the open beta en masse. This beta covered both the multi and the single player. Although both modes were able to offer the same missions, the experiences are completely different. I also have to believe it and am, although it is not directly my type of game, since the game, I was curious about the end product. Why? There is only one way to find out and that is by reading further.

Over the top

Monster Hunter is not exactly known for its accessibility. I have to say that I have played the series with a lot of fun in a distant past and Monster Hunter World does not feel very different. Yes, we are also hunting this time again for samples ranging from small and touching to gigantic and terrifying. Hunting we do not dress in sweatpants and sweatshirt with a simple, simple sword in hand, but with the help of gigantic weapons and a strong armor. You will not find them in the local H & M, but must be forged with the remains of our victims. Whether it's armor, weapons or accessories, we need the guts of those damn monsters. You collect that by accepting quests. In this beta we were offered four, varying from simple to O shit, you are almost guaranteed to die. Fine, because starting and returning players can get used to the game and the more experienced hunters get to grips with the giants right away.

Although World pretends to be more accessible than its predecessors, you did not notice that much in the beta. Okay, you got some assistance, but for some more advanced options you really had to go to the tutorial. I expect that to be different in the final game, but an introduction sheet did not look out of place for this beta. Anyway, it's about chasing up monsters and then slaughtering them. You start on a basis at all times. Here you can make equipment from collected materials and discuss the tactics with fellow players. Do not forget to sharpen your sword with a whetstone before you go to battle and store enough potions. Trust me, you need them.

Track, follow, slaughter

When you are ready, it is time to enter the wide world. This is divided into various sectors where your target can be hidden. Your target is not after you leave the camp right in front of you. No, you have to explore first. You do this by looking for footprints and other hints, for example. One of them slides past trees, the other lashes on them, and the real monsters slither and glide over the ground or prefer the airspace. If you gather enough clues, it gradually becomes clear what you are dealing with and what your tactics should be. Where is the monster at its strongest, what are its weak points and where can it hide? These are just a handful of parts that you have to take into account. The little ones you still take without tactics, but the big one? They are not that easy yet.

In the beta, we therefore had a choice of four missions. These missions could be played online as well as offline. My preference goes to online as you get help from others who assist you with causing damage or buffering with useful tools. The servers worked fine. I was thrown into a party fairly quickly and the three of us went out. What it was that we hunted, we did not know that yet. Soon, however, we discovered that we were looking for an Anjanath, or the horror of the jungle. This T-Rex look-a-like is fast and knows how to do enormous damage with its tail and sharp teeth. The plan the campaign? Focusing on the tail and ensuring that it is quickly removed. Funny, because I played with a Japanese and Swede. Communicative not the strongest team, yet we were on the same line. Not only were we in combat with the Anjanath, the clock also joined the battle. The time limit was twenty minutes and that turned out to be enough.

Another fighter joins the battle!

That open world of Monster Hunter World is a curse and a blessing at the same time. He looks fantastic and breathes enough ulcer to make you forget the reality. Your prey is not the only inhabitant of the world. During the search you often encounter a monster that you want to devour with skin and hair or simply ignore it completely. The latter has my preference, but sometimes a new pursuer also provides his benefits. This is how we attracted our prey to various traps. Some samples do not have it that way. Put them in contact and they fly together in scales, feathers or hairs. Grab a bowl of popcorn and enjoy the show.

Your prey, however, does not sit still. If you do enough damage, the monster will retreat to another zone to recover. That can be in a nest with multiple enemies, or just in the mud that the monster uses as a shield and camouflage. Gradually, the monster shows signs of fatigue, damage and total lifelessness. For example, the Anjanath ended with a stump like a tail, a serious leg wound and finally an empty plundered body.

Provisional Conclusion

Monster Hunter World really surprised me. That depth of the past is still there and the series looks more beautiful than ever before. I did not see that announced accessibility completely, except for simplified crafting parts, but I also do not expect the beta to be intended for that. This was the starter and that appetizer makes it taste more. The monsters are again to be feasted and the matchmaking is pretty smooth. The world is alive with its colorful inhabitants who are ready for slaughter. Both the single player and the multiplayer offer an excellent experience, each of which is good in its own way. Designing tactics, tracing samples and then seeing the tactics in action gives a wonderful feeling. I can not wait to have the final product in my hands.

Monster Hunter World appears on January 26 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
