The Games that shaped me.
Hello everyone, figured I would go over some of my favorite games and the games that have shaped me. Also go over what gaming has meant for me over the years. First of all I suffer from depression, gaming has been my anti depressant and kept me alive. As well as some of the friends I have made from gaming. Many of these friends have since drifted away or lost touch which is sad, but I still cherish the memories we made. I started gaming when I was 4 years old. My dad brought home of the original NES systems. I started off with Mario and Zelda. Never could figure out how to get to Ganon and beat the game though =( haha but ah well it was good fun. I am a huge fan of the JRPG, and RPG genre's as well as fighters and MMO's. So lets get down to my list of top 10 games. This is going to be hard haha.
- Final Fantasy VI
OH man...This game has remained my all time favorite game. When I first got it, I stayed up for 3 days strait playing it. It wasn't till I burst a blood vessel in my eye that I could manage to drag myself away from it lol. The story was so amazing and compelling. The villains were real villains, and I got so attached to the heroes. Kefka has been an all time favorite villain of mine through any game, and Terra has stuck with me as my favorite heroine.
Okay so the rest of these are in no particular order as Picking my actual favorites of these would be impossible. They are all such amazing games.
The Persona series. I am going to just say the series because all of them have been amazing. The first one I tried gave me a bad impression at first so was really against trying these games. However after seeing it top the gaming charts many times I figured I had to give them a second shot. I was glad I did. I started with Persona 4. Oh my goodness these games.....The story was so well written, the characters were so likable. You got to peer into their inner thoughts in the TV world. There were several ending based on your choices which is amazing that you can play it several times and the game can play out differently. The true ending though, was insane. I won't ruin anything in case anyone wants to play through the game but man....
The Next one I tried was Persona 3. I felt like this one had some really good game play mechanics that It needed that were missing in the 4th one. Odd that they would remove them from the next game. But again, it stayed true to amazing story telling that JRPG's are so good at delivering. I cannot recommend these games enough. The Shin Megami Tensei series. Another amazing series. All these games again have such a great story. Add in a pet raising system and massive customization of your character and you have a recipe for an amazingly good time. Surprised these games are not more well known as they are such amazing games.
The next one is pretty fairly well known. It's World of Warcraft. This game has changed a lot over the years. I have to say I prefer the Burning Crusade era of the game. The raids were a challenge and fun. Yet doable. Raiding was almost impossible in Vanilla, but in BC it was more doable, yet not a cake walk like it is now. What really made this game for me though, was the connections I made. I have met so many amazing people in this game. I will never forget the bonds I have made because of this game.
Another pretty well known game, Skyrim. Really all of the Elder scrolls games. Another Amazing story telling series added in with the sandbox world and massive customization. We need more games like this one.
Now this one is a little less known but falls in line with Dungeons and Dragons, which I love. It's Neverwinter Nights 2. This game was amazingly well done. It brought D&D to the pc, gave you lots of customization, notable characters to get involved with, and a compelling story with lots of twists. I still play this game today.
Next on the List if Terraria. A fun 2d builder adventure game. I have spent so many hours on this game it is crazy. Recently I have been playing with mods that give the game an all new look and feel which breaths new life into it.
This game to I have played with some great friends and will cherish our adventures. The several times that I dropped tnt onto my friend and accidentally killed him XD
Close in line with the above is the original, Minecraft. It took a lot of convincing from a friend to get into this one but I was glad I did. Adventuring and building my own little world was so much fun. Then the mods came and got better and better. Now I can play an all new experience with magic and adventure.
Final Fantasy 7 is another one of my all time favorite game. It has some heart wrenching and blood boiling moments. You get so attached to the characters. As well as the massive amount of Materia combinations that let you make some OP characters. The ending is so satisfying as they really build your hate for the final boss. Another great game.
Finally we get to number 10. Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time. Man...this game was great. I played it so many times. In fact I recently got it for Nintendo 3DS and beat it in 3 days haha. I grew up playing this one and was the first zelda game I actually beat.
Thus brings my list to a close, what game is your favorite? What was your first? What has shaped your gaming life? And thanks for reading!
