An important part of any base design is traps. Traps can make a huge difference in the outcome of an attack. Keeping your main defenses well out of reach from attacking units is also a great way to prevent 3 star attacks. This base was poor in both these areas.
I think this guy just upgraded and forgot to redo his base.
Very possible, I do the same.
