Hello, friends and gameplayers! Today I want to share with you my first impressions of the game “Hellblade, Senua’s Sacrifice”. It would be awesome to know your opinion about the game, so write your comments!

To be fair I am not a professional gameplayer and the game should be really interesting and exciting to attract my attention. Here we are! From the beginning of the game, you live in the head of a schizophrenic girl, completely involved in her crazy expectations about this world. Everything around is alive; the dark creatures are everywhere…mystery and craziness. You are becoming a part of this and it totally explodes your brain. It makes you wonder, do people with the mental disease can really see the world like this? If yes, they are totally having fun. Of course, It is a joke. Even for the main character, it is ruining her world, and it’s very difficult to distinguish reality from fantasy. While playing the game, you don’t really know what’s happening, if it’s all a hallucination or perhaps it’s all real?

At the beginning when I just started playing, I was shocked when a spirit told me in fancy Viking words that in this game there’s a limit to how many times I can continue. There is some kind of corruption, spreading through your body, starting from your hand and every time you fail it spreads more and more. Eventually, when it will reach the Seuna’s head, she will permanently die. Need to be careful really! Dying is not without consequences in this game, reminds of old-school games in the 90s. Good old hardcore gaming!

Plus that’s not all, the game is actually really difficult, usually when in a battle you get surrounded by a group of enemies and Senua is not really a strong character. She’s far more human than her imaginary Viking enemies and far weaker than them.

The game does take some time to get used to, the first 2 hours you kind of try to get used to the overall game mechanics. A bit of a slow start, at some point you might think. Woa this is really boring, but then… the game starts to shine in all its spooky glory. By the time you face the first boss, everything immediately speeds up to an incredibly hard, and action-packed game. I won’t say this is something like Dark Souls but Hellblade is a hard game indeed.

One thing that does shine in this game are the graphics and sound. This is really amazing! You are like watching a movie in 4K or better present there. The sounds and music make you feel a bit scared and nervous. These whispers are continuing talking in your head even after you quit the game. The nature sounds are also very real. It makes you feel involved, but the same time trying to distract you.

The game is like a big puzzle. It makes you think and look for a solution. The same time this is an aesthetic pleasure for people who like this kind of stuff. From the first minutes of the game, you are becoming one person with the character. Her defeat is your defeat.

This game totally deserves a rating of 8/10. Very unique experience, it's not a perfect game but for what it is.
A great mind boggling experience.

Update!!! IGN just released the video review of the game. You can check it out at the bottom:

Oh my if this is like dark souls I want it @christina.red

Difficulty wise! Sure it could be similar. You just keep dying and dying till you get frustrated. But hey, both games are completely different Hellblade is not an RPG, also there are no items what so ever here. It's a very unique experience, kind of a love/hate relationship at times. Sometimes you want to throw the keyboard right at the screen in anger, while other times, you are in awe at the immersive atmosphere and graphic design. The game is indeed something to check out and experience by yourself. Very unique in all aspects.

Thanks @christina.red I am not into easy games so this sounds great thanks for the explanation.

@simonjay, Sorry for the late response, however I have been trying out Hellblade and as a dark souls fan this is considered a VERY EASY game. They mention in the beginning that dying too many times can result in a total reset, a loss of all your progress. However it seems this does not happen that fast. Make your choice wisely. Its a fun game, really enjoyed it, but far from challenging.

Thanks very much for sharing @matthijsw while the difficulty would be a shame for me as I prefer dark souls difficulty the main character and world as me interested enough to give it a try.

Nice post
