Do you want to be a CHESS GRANDMASTER? - Lesson 1
Hey everyone! I have decided that along with my posts on my journey in Buddhism, I will create a guide on playing chess. I have been a chess player for 15 years now and have participated in , and won, several tournaments. This guide will start with the very basics of chess, so if you are more experienced you will have to wait until later! Today, we will learn about the chess board!
The Board
A chess board has 64 squares, 32 white and 32 black. The board runs 8 squares vertically (1-8) and 8 squares horizontally (A-H). The board is always oriented in a way so that white starts with a white bottom right square.
As you can see, in total, each side has 16 figures. Whites figures are lined up on the squares 1A-H and 2A-H, whereas blacks figures are lined up on the squares 7A-H and 8A-H. The set up shown in this picture is how every single game of chess starts, if its played by a novice, by an intermediate player or even by a GRANDMASTER.
