Piko Piko Girl Overhauls Metroidvania Genre with Cutesy Graphics
Fans of Metroidvania are probably happy as all get out in recent years. This genre has seemingly been adopted by independent developers and featured in more games than any other genre I can think of. Piko Piko Girl is just the latest such indie release to adopt the genre and put its own touch on it. Piko Piko Girl just happens to be on IndieGoGo right now looking for funding to make the game even better.
Piko Piko Girl features:
• Cute Girls
• Secrets! Hidden npcs with new history interactions
• Hacking
• Detailed, living background ! Beautiful handmade pixel art!
• Cute characters and bosses!
• Cute gameplay, easy to new ones, and hard for experts.
• Narrative with humor
• Hammers
Piko is a blacksmith girl who carries a rather large heart hammer where ever she goes. There is not a lot of information on the story so far other than Piko’s world is seemingly peaceful until some weird things start happening. Not much to go on at all.
That lack of story might be a thorn in the side of potential backers that want to know more about the game they are supporting. I am one of them.
Right now, the only thing that goes into very much detail is the minute and a half video on the IndieGoGo page and that is not very in depth. There is precious little that says this is a Metroidvania style game and not just slightly larger levels than those in Super Mario Bros 3 on the Nintendo Entertainment System. Another thorn.
Unfortunately, I can see why Piko Piko Girl is not above $500 yet, of their $5,000 goal (let alone any stretch goals) with about a month to go.
I hope the developer is able to turn this around and get something up on the project page that is a little more tangible towards their claims for Piko Piko Girl. Otherwise, I just don’t see this one getting funded.
