The game of football is enjoyed by many Jamaicans. This game like athletics brings communities together and unify people. When Jamaica won the international game against the United States, the Prime Minister gave a public holiday to celebrate. Studies have shown when games of this nature is being played there is little or no crime.
Football is played in schools and clubs competitively throughout the year. So a number of football clubs are scattered in nearly every district and it is supported by most of the people in the community.

Jamaica has joined the international scene in this game. Many youths today have the opportunity to be a professional through football. In the early days of the sixties and the seventies, and even the eighties this was not so. There are formal structures both in schools and on the community levels that can help aspiring youngsters who want to play professionally. As a retiree, I can remember a number of youngsters who could play football at school but were never given this kind of opportunity so they had just to look at others in the developing countries who could live off this game. I am glad that this has changed. Here the team are in training.
Another great feature about this game is that it is not confined to males. We also have a female team called the Reggae Girlz
.
I am glad that Jamaica football has taken off to entertain, to develop into a sporting activity that can enhance family life and also be a career path for many. While preparing this article I realize that football schools for training and championship are being established.
