Amazing facts about whales.

Ok, guys i decided to share some info about whales too.

We all know, that whales are definitely one of the most important groups out there.

Whales are mammals.

When we speak about whales, we are taking about the order of animals called Cetaceans.

Then they are further divided in two subgroups: Odontoceti(Tooth Whales) and Mysticeti(Baleen Whales). Despite living their whole life in the water, they are mammals. They give birth, to live young, and they are warmblooded.

As all mammal creatures, whales crawled out of the water, about 375 million years ago. But for some reasons, they returned back into the ocean.

Thats why they still have ears. Tooth whales are like dolphins, they use echolocation to hunt and to navigate. While Baleen whales don’t use echolocation, but instead they are making a special sound, as though they are singing. They do it every half an hour, or so.

Because whales evolved from the land, their backbones don’t move from side to side, rather up and down… And thats why their tail moves horizontal, instead of vertical like fish.

WHALES ARE CARNIVORES

They eat about every kind of animal there is, in the ocean. Tooth whales eat everything from fish to seals. While baleen whales, filter and eat small animals like plankton and fish. A blue whale can eat as much as 4 tons, of food per day.

Whales can live for 200 years.

And eventually, when a whale dies, they create mini eco systems called whale falls, sustaining thousands of deep sea species for decades.

And thats it.

Haha)) I’m sorry guys, i know that most likely you wanted to read about our beloved steemit whales.

But i just could't help myself.)

But think positive, now you know everything about Whales.
