"The Splinter."

It hadn't been very long that the two had met. He had invited her to dinner one evening, and she accepted. She wasn't getting any younger, so she thought, "what the heck." Maybe he is "the one" in a world full of "not the ones." The evening of the dinner her girlfriend called and a terrible sadness. She had a broken heart, and the sound of her voice made the friend quite concerned. So she invited her along to the dinner. She asked the gentleman, "Would it be okay if I brought my girlfriend, she is in a terrible sadness?" He assured her that it would be fine. So the evening had arrived, and the two were on their way to have dinner with a stranger.

The dinner was lovely there was music, laughter, and good food. The conversation was deep and meaningful. They spoke about life, love, and tragedy. She appreciated how accepting the gentleman was with her friend that was nursing a broken heart. The friend went out onto the terrace to see the view. The gentleman snuck a kiss as they sat on the couch. She went to hold his hand and firmly squeezed it. "Ouch!" he yelled. She looked puzzled, "I am so sorry, I didn't know you had an injured hand." "Yes, I hurt my pinky finger this morning while I was surfing," he replied. With care and concern, she says to the gentleman, "I hurt my hand some years back, and it is important that you get a Splinter."

As the evening came to an end the stranger was a stranger no more. He walked them to the door and as he went to kiss her goodnight. She gently reached down and touched his hand, "Remember to get a splinter."

Come to think of it I think it is called a splint and not a splinter. "Oh well." It is my first day.

Glad I am not alone in realizing I messed up my writing after I already posted it! Great story though! Upped
