The Hive

Howdy folks'.

Year 2045 Earth population seems to be settling at a balance of 10.7 Billion people. 0.7 billion above the expected level. The Earth still held sufficient space and resources to accommodate the populations. The need for immediate profit over an assured return for generations was epidemic. Leading to pollution and environmental damage beyond human repair. Famine's became frequent, not because of low food resources but by hoarding of food by those in power. 3 billion people died in 10 short years until year 2055.

In 2055 Those surviving outside of the reaches of the few elite. Took control of the land around them. They formed The representation. They avoided using the word govern. Those who would be involved in discussion of the community or wider area would need to show representation of the communities direction and not the individuals who gained position.

The resources and facilities needed to begin a new society outside away from the governing body which repeatedly failed to represent the people through history. People grew crops and created their own energy supply. There was not many with great knowledge about one things. Combined they were able to find solutions to the majority of the obstacles that blocked their progress.

Over the next two hundred years, peace dominated the planet. Vast areas were reclaimed by nature and are now historical trails. Some have been turned into Nature Reserves for the new wildlife that has populated the abandoned cities.

The elite remained closed within their own city walls. They would negotiate for energy supply water supply and food. In return the jewellery items would be melted down and used for electrical components were possible.

1000 years later a drive to explore the rest of the universe exploded through the population of the planet. This is were I came into this story. Almost 1300 years after you read this.

The journey took 15 years to make. This was utilising the latest in Warp Flux Technology. In out own solar system. Things take just as long. As higher speeds cannot be reached. For an additional 2 years travel, Hell Yeah! Sign me up for Andromeda!

One thing I would like to point out. When they say you do not age when you travel faster. 15 years means you aged 15 years. You may have aged much more, But 15 years I aged while travelling to Andromeda.

Once we found a planet. There was limited access to it, while environmental tests were being carried out. A breathable atmosphere, drinkable running water, edible vegetation. That was the requirements we had set as guidelines for an inhabitable planet. None of us were scientists. Just volunteers to travel interstellar at our own risk. The pilot on our ship was probably the only one with experience in space.

Shuttle pods were used to travel to the surface and back to the main ship. The first few time we went down to the planet. We found out it is better to keep our pressure suits on. Our bones are weak from the Space travel and short period on the planet will be needed to regain strength to them along with normal exercises. We didn't encounter any other life.

One day we came down and at our landing spot was an offering of fresh fruits. Some of the fruits we had not seen before. Still we could locate the local people. The pilot knew how to fly the ship. But not work the bio scanners in the science labs.

Should there be a part 2?

Yes, I vote yes for a part two. Did any of the fruit taste like chicken? or was it more of a rattle snake taste?
