Awesome Paleocene fossil hunting site in marylandsteemCreated with Sketch.

Just wanted to share some pictures of an awesome Paleocene fossil hunting site in Maryland. This site produces mostly marine fossils, shells, shark, fish and crocodile.

The fossils found at this site are eroding out of the river and the cliffs along the banks. Here's a picture of some of the cliffs

Here is a close up of the cliffs. As you can you can see, shells are the most abundant fossil at this site. They are the thousands of white things in the cliff.

Over time, rain, wind and mostly undercutting from the river causes the cliffs to fall over like this.

The tide coming in and out along with storms eat away at the cliffs slowly breaking them down leaving behind only the hardest pieces.

As the fallen cliffs get broken down it releases the fossil treasures trapped in them, allowing them to be found on the beach. There's a shark tooth in each of these photos, can you find it?
