Forgiveness is Cultural
"Made direct amends to such people, wherever possible..." (Alcoholics Anonymous).
Many cultures believe in forgiveness. For instance, in many Asian, African, and Japanese cultures, forgiveness is viewed as restoring harmony and balance in relationships. It's about reconciling relationships with others, living in harmony within one's family and community. Even in the Hawaiian Culture, the concept of “ho’oponopono” encompasses reconciliation and forgiveness, emphasizing the importance of restoring relationships and harmony. In individualistic cultures, the focus of forgiveness is on personal goals, such as harmony and emotional balance with oneself.
Let's not lose track of the importance of forgiveness. Forgiving is a key idea and principle in any relationship. It's essential to identify ways in which one can forgive. My focus today is to see where I need to forgive myself and forgive others, so that I might live in emotional balance. I encourage you to do the same. Seek out forgiveness today, wherever it might be needed.
