NFL Mock Draft 2018
2018 NFL Mock Draft
NFL Mock draft season is upon us. College football regular season has ended and some of us NFL fans (Broncos fan here) don’t have the playoffs to look forward to. Instead we get to envision what our team could look like next year with some nice collegiate additions. There is a plethora of mocks circulating the internet and you can check ESPN and various other sites that claim to have “draft experts” but they don’t know more than you or I.
Look at all of the latest mock projections and the first round is always loaded with players from the biggest schools and biggest conferences. Only problem is many of those players slide down the board while players from smaller schools and conferences rise up the board. We only have to look at the past two drafts to see that at this time in the year, Carson Wentz wasn’t projected as a 1st-rounder and Jonathan Allen was supposed to be a lock as a top-5 pick. That all being said, I did my best and let's get to it.
1) Cleveland Browns
Sam Darnold QB - USC
This is assuming that Darnold will declare and that Rosen makes it clear that he doesn’t want to play in Cleveland. Finally gives Hue Jackson a QB for the Browns.
2) New York Giants
Josh Rosen QB - UCLA
Even though it looks like Eli might be back, the new CBA allows teams to pick this high without breaking the bank. I would look for the Giants to do what they did long ago with Eli, which is draft him and let him sit behind a veteran.
3) Indianapolis Colts
Mike McGlinchey OT - Notre Dame
A massive anchor for the offensive line that the Colts have needed for years. Will help keep Luch healthy.
4) Cleveland Browns
Bradley Chubb DE - NC State
The Browns could go different directions here, but a pass rush is a must in the NFL. Pairing Chubb with Garrett should excite Browns fans.
5) Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Minkah Fitzpatrick S - Alabama
The Alabama safety provides flexibility on the back end that few players can. He can play safety, nickel and even line up on the outside. Bucs fans just hope this isn’t Mark Barron 2.0.
6) Denver Broncos
Josh Allen QB - Wyoming
The Broncos need a QB and Elway takes a chance on Allen. He has the skill set you want, but did not have the strongest senior year. A plus for him is the system he played in at Wyoming, the same system Wentz played in at NDSU.
7) New York Jets
Courtland Sutton WR - SMU
Has the size-speed combo that makes him the top receiver taken. Jets need a playmaker on the outside. Whoever the QB is needs someone to throw to.
8) San Francisco 49ers
Saquon Barkley RB - Penn State
The 49ers land their ideal man. Barkley can run, catch, return and do everything in-between. Shanahan will be able to use him like he Devonta Freeman.
9) Chicago Bears
Christian Kirk WR - Texas A&M
Kirk provides some electricity for a team in need of playmakers. He is a talented pass catcher and can take it to the house with every return.
10) Cincinnati Bengals
Quenton Nelson G - Notre Dame
Bengals are in need of offensive line help and they land the best guard in the draft. Nelson led the country in run blocking according to PFF and helps the run game take some pressure off of Andy Dalton.
11) Oakland Raiders
Roquon Smith LB - Georgia
Raiders need help on the defensive side on all three levels. They go with the best defender on the board. Smith comes and helps transform the defensive with his sideline-to-sideline playmaking ability.
12) Miami Dolphins
Calvin Ridley WR - Alabama
Gase can use some more explosive plays on the outside. Devante Parker has continued to disappoint and Miami takes advantage of the playmaker from Bama.
13) Arizona Cardinals
Baker Mayfield QB - Oklahoma
Assuming Bruce Arians stays, the Cardinals finally get a long-term QB in Baker Mayfield. Mayfield’s abilities fit nicely in Arian’s system.
14) Washington Redskins
Derwin James S - Florida State
Washington James who, similar to Fitzpatrick, can do it all. He can cover a lot of ground on the backend to allow Kerrigan and company to get after the QB.
15) Green Bay Packers
Ogbonnia Okoronkwo OLB- Oklahoma
There are rumblings that Green Bay will part with Clay Matthews at the end of the season. Whether they keep him or not, the Pack can use Okoronkwo’s ability to rush the passer.
16) Los Angeles Chargers
Connor Williams OT - Texas
Okung has done a good job for the Chargers this year, but Right Tackle has had issues. Williams can come in and play at RT until he slides over to take Okung’s spot.
17) Buffalo Bills
Maurice Hurst DT - Michigan
The Bills need help on the D-line and they add Hurst who was Pro Football Focus’ top graded player. He can stop the run and rush the passer. Gives Sean McDermott some help similar to what he had in Carolina.
18) Detroit Lions
Derrius Guice RB - LSU
The Lions have needed a RB for way too long. Guice filled in nicely for Fournette last year and took over the starting role this year. Will immediately take pressure off of Stafford.
19) Dallas Cowboys
Denzel Ward CB - Ohio State
The Cowboys can go a few different directions, but they don’t pass up on the top-rated CB in the draft.
20) Seattle Seahawks
Josh Jackson CB - Iowa
Richard Sherman is hurt and isn’t getting younger. The Seahawks grab one of the most physical corners in the draft and take a step toward getting the Legion of Boom back.
21) Tennessee Titans
Clelin Ferrell DE - Clemson
Ferrell provides the Titans with more pass-rush punch. Orakpo is getting older and Ferrell provides the Titans with a guy to groom into the position.
22) Baltimore Ravens
James Washington WR - Oklahoma State
The Ravens need some consistency from the WR position. They are 29th in the league in pass yards/game. Help is on the way with Washington.
23) Atlanta Falcons
Christian Wilkins DT - Clemson
The Falcons add an athletic interior presence to help push the pocket from the inside to free up Vic Beasley on the outside. Helps Dan Quinn in his quest to recreate his vaunted defenses from Seattle.
24) Buffalo Bills (via KC)
Chukwuma Okorafor OT - Western Michigan
The Bills addressed the D-line with their first pick and now address the offensive line with the second pick. Okorafor probably begins on the right side before moving to the left side.
25) Jacksonville Jaguars
Lamar Jackson QB - Louisville

Blake Bortles has played better of late, but Jackson has too much upside for the Jags to pass on. He can run and throw and has the skill to develop as a passer at the next level.
26) Carolina Panthers
Michael Gallup WR - Colorado State
Carolina needs playmakers on the outside. Gallup was named an All-American and graded as the top receiver according to PFF. He catches everything thrown his way and is terrific with the ball in his hands.
27) New Orleans Saints
TJ Edwards LB - Wisconsin
The Saints have had a great turnaround from their defense this season. They could use some help in the middle of the defense and they add Edwards who plays well in space and can stop the run and defend the pass.
28) Los Angeles Rams
Kameron Kelly CB - San Diego State
http://www.trbimg.com/img-59c3ed86/turbine/sd-sp-aztecs-football-kameron-kelly-20170920
The Rams add the rangy Cornerback from San Diego State. Wade Phillips loves to play man and Kelly provides another cover guy to their secondary.
29) Minnesota Vikings
Orlando Brown OT - Oklahoma
The Vikings add a RT to take Remmers place. The Vikings have developed a solid offensive attack and they add the massive tackle from Oklahoma. He can help in the run game and the pass game.
30) Pittsburgh Steelers
Mark Andrews TE - Oklahoma
Andrews has put up great numbers at the tight end position and provides Big Ben (or whoever will be QB) with a big target between the hashes.
31) New England Patriots
Harold Landry DE/OLB - Boston College
The Patriots take advantage of Landry’s slide. Once considered a top-15 pick, Landry didn’t have as strong of a season this fall. Hoodiechick adds another moveable piece to the Defense with pass rush ability.
32) Philadelphia Eagles
Kolton Miller OT - UCLA
Jason Peters went down for the year and Miller provides a massive replacement. At 6-8, Miller comes in to replace the perennial pro-bowler.
