World Cup 2018 Update #2 - Wolf (Zabivaka) is Ready for Action & so is Russia!
Wolf (Zabivaka) is ready for action & so is Russia!
Zabivaka’s name comes from the meaning of “the one who scores”. The mascot was designed by 21 year old Russian student designer Ekaterina Bocharova. There were 50,000 participants competing to become Russia’s mascot. There was also an Amur tiger and an alien competing. Eventually it came down to three participants, the cat, the tiger and Zabivaka. The tiger (Cosmonaut) received 27 votes, the cat received 20 while Zabivaka received 53 for the win. The russians believed that because wolves have speed and assertiveness, it could give them more chances to win the world cup.
Zabivaka is a greyish and white wolf. He wears a Russian 2018 blue, red and white t-shirt. On his head he has sports goggles with orange rims. Overall I think Russia made the right choice selecting Zabivaka as their mascot! What do you think? ☺
Key Characteristics of Zabivaka
He is charming, confident and social and has always dreamt of becoming a football star.
His favourite sporting pastime is playing football. He is a fair player, values his team members and respects his opponents, and he plays with skill and purpose.
He is always fun to be around – as the joker in the pack, he knows how to make others laugh.
He has taken to wearing cool sports glasses when he’s in action; he believes they give him special targeting powers on the pitch. And he loves to pose for photos!
