Breakfast has since 1970 study been classified as the most important meal
Since ever has parents favourite line been: “Breakfast is the most important meal”. But is this really the truth? Fasting diets is gaining more and more popularity across the world, and majority of the population is skipping “the most important meal of the day”. So how come that we over 40 years have classified the importance of breakfast?

So how come that studies is showing two opposite results?

The problem is analyzing the data. We have to understand two important aspects. One: Who are making these studies? Two: How many people did involve in the studies?

Let me explain with an example:

Let’s say we wanna study how skipping breakfast links to obesity. We have 10 test persons. 5 will eat breakfast and 5 will skip. After 14 days, we would conclude that the group skipping breakfast has gained more weight, than the group that did eat breakfast

But here’s my question. As we all know, every person is different. That means that those 5 people skipping breakfast, would maybe gain weight anyhow whether they skip the breakfast or not.

So if we can’t trust the studies, how should we know?

The case is, that we would never know. For many years ago, we didn’t even know that tobacco links to cancer. But the big tobacco companies was earning a hell lot of profit, claiming that there were no harm from the tobacco.

Don’t you think that a lot of sugar and food companies that will close their doors today, if we start skipping the breakfast, the cereal etc.? Ofc. a lot of these studies is actually made by big food companies.

So what is all this buzz about intermittent fasting?

Intermittent fasting is one of the most popular eating patterns. It’s not a diet, it’s actually a eating pattern.

By fasting and then feasting on purpose, intermittent fasting generally means that you consume your calories during a specific window of the day, and choose not to eat food for a larger window of time.

So what is the point of intermittent fasting?
The most popular fasting pattern is the 18/6. That means that you will fast 18 hours and only have a 6 hours window to eat. It’s important to understand that the body always burn the carbs/sugar your eat first. And if you’re a classical 4-5 meals per day eat’er your body will keep burning the energy(carbs, sugar) you eat. The point of fasting is that your body can burn the stored fat under the fasting period.

So if I skip 2-3 meals a day i would lose weight?
Yes, by reducing your a meal or two each day, you will consume fewer calories per week. Even if your meal portions is bigger, you are still consuming fewer calories per day. This is highlighted in a recent JAMA study in which both calorie restricted dieters and intermittent fasters lost similar amounts of weight over a year period.
