Amr's Egyptian cuisine #2: How To Make Hawawshi.
So last post I shared with you guys my favorite Egyptian desert called "Basbousa". Today, I'll be sharing with you guys how to make Hawawshi. Hawawshi is a traditional dish made from meat, bread, and spices.
I can promise that it's very delicious. You'll feel a explosion of flavors in your mouth from the chunky taste of spiced fatty meat to the doughy bread pulp!
This recipe is very dear to my heart because this was the last meal my grandma made for me before she died. It's really depressing, but it's true. I hope you guys enjoy this recipe. Now, let's start!
Ingredients
5 loafs of bread
1/2 a kilo. (1.2 pounds) of red meat
1 large Onion
Butter or oil
1 large bell pepper
1 large tomato
You'll also need Aluminum foil
Spices
Salt and pepper
Cinnamon
Nutmeg
cloves
Coriander
a few bay leafs
Cardamom pods
Paprika
Preparation
Step 1: Preheat oven to 250C (480F)
Step 2: Dice the tomato, onion, and bell pepper. Make sure the pieces are small for easy mixing
Step 3: Mix all the ingredients together in a large bowel
Step 4: Oil the pan that you'll use in the oven. (In my case I melted some fat on to it)
Step 5: get some of the Hawawshi meat mix and spread it inside the bread
Step 6: Put the Hawawshi in the oven for for 5 minutes, then lower the temperature to 180C (350F) and leave in there for 30 minutes.
Step 7: Enjoy an amazing Hawawshi meal with your friends and family (or by yourself if you're a loner xD)
I hope you guys try this recipe and find it delicious. Btw, you don't have to use this same exact bread I used. You can use any type of bread you want as long as the is and made of 2 layers and openable (like you can spread things in it).
Until my next post guys, have a good night and good luck :)
