"The King of Fruits" Tastes Like Heaven, Smells Like Hell!

In my travels, I have always tried the native foods in the cities i have visited and with one exception i have enjoyed the experience eating different kinds of durian varieties. I love durian! I've been eating durian since I was a kid. I even ate a durian straight from it's tree in the forests! LOL
Durian is a funny looking, large, spikey, green fruit that is popular throughout out South East Asia. It is loved by many while others can’t stand to be within 100 feet of it. The fruit has a strong potent smell that many describe as being similar to petrol and/or rotten onions The smell is considered.
Many for those who are first time to test or smell this fruit really don't like it but as when you used to taste it you really like this fruit. The unique smell is due to the presence of sulfur in the fruit the gives it it’s distinctive smell. They said "It smells like hell but taste like heaven".
If you are new to durian, I suggest to start with the sweet and creamy variety to tickle your taste buds and get accustomed with the smell of durian. For Veteran Durian eaters, they usually like the strong bitter after-taste of some of the stronger varieties.
Durian became the King of the Fruits and the Fruit of the Gods for its large size, strong odor, and terrifying thorn-covered husk.
There are several species of durian. If you are a durian addict, you would know what are its varieties. Some of the most common species of durian that we can find along Magsaysay Park and Davao City streets are Arancillo, Chanee, Puyat, Alcon Fancy, Duyaya, Mamer and Red Prawn. And I always buy either Puyat and Chanee because they are odorous, sweet and creamy that delight my taste buds.
Durian Season typically starts from August until October and during its peak season, prices are so low, it ranges from 30-50 PhP, but after its peak season, you could still find Durian anywhere in the City, literally, but it’s just that, it would cost you like 80 to 120 pesos per Kilo.

Health Benefits of Durian
Like other tropical fruits such as banana, avocado, and jackfruit, durian is rich in energy, vitamins, and minerals. It offers phytonutrients, water, protein, and beneficial fats. While very low in cholesterol and sodium, it is rich in dietary fiber and is a good source of antioxidant vitamin C, which helps scavenge harmful free radicals and assists in your body’s resistance against infection.
Durian is also considered an excellent source of B vitamins, including niacin, riboflavin, B5, B6, and thiamin. These are essential vitamins, meaning you have to replenish them in your body through external sources.
The fruit boasts a good amount of minerals such as manganese, copper, iron, and magnesium. It also contains potassium and the essential amino acid tryptophan, which the body converts in two chemical steps to serotonin and may help in the treatment of depression.
Health areas that durian is said to positively impact include digestion, blood pressure and cardiovascular health, aging (due mainly to its antioxidant properties), insomnia, sexual dysfunction, cancer, bone health (as a great source of magnesium, potassium, manganese, and copper), and anemia.
