Vegetarian Junkfood: "Pigs" in a Blanket

in #food6 years ago

No matter how long I stay the path of a meatless diet, I sometimes have eruptive cravings of comfort foods from my carnivorous past. Pigs in a blanket has always been one of those indulgences I just couldn't leave behind. Thankfully, meat substitutes have come a long way, and I can get my pigs in a blanket fix, without harming any actual pigs.

These savory little bites make a great appetizer or finger food for any parties. For an extra layer of cheesy flavor, feel free to add the optional cheddar strips, and the only thing that makes these finger foods better is a little honey mustard to dip them in.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tube refrigerated crescent rolls
  • 8 vegan sausage substitues (I use Morningstar Veggie Breakfast Links)
  • 1/2 tablespoon butter
  • 8 centimeter width, sausage length slices of cheddar cheese (optional)
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Meanwhile in a small skillet melt the butter over medium heat and cook the sausage substitutes for about 4 minutes, turning often.
  2. Unroll the crescents into triangles and place cheese strips and sausages in the center. Roll the triangles around the "sausages" and cook for 12-13 minutes, until cresents are golden brown.
