The underrated cuisine of Indonesia (Part 1?)
Everyone knows pad thai and pho, but Indonesian food doesn't really get the attention it deserves. So I present to you a few dishes that I enjoy and have decent pictures of.
Dendeng batokok, with tempeh, sambal, and vegetable soup.
The main item here is the dendeng batokok, a dish from Padang consisting of beef that has been smashed with a hammer to make it tender, marinated in spices and coconut oil, and served with coarsely chopped green chilis spread out on top.
Left: Tongseng with tempeh. Right: Nasi Lengko
I don't know how tongseng is made or what its made of. You should just try it.
Nasi Lengko is rice with tofu, tempeh, bean sprouts, peanut sauce, and a boiled egg. What a great variety of cheap and delicious proteins.
