COOKED #28: Japanese Daikon
Japanese Daikon
If you hear Japanese Food you usually imagine Sushi and Wagyu but there is so much more (If you follow my Soul Food Series you will already know a lot about Japanese Food). I had a dinner with friends recently and while we were preparing fish I realized that most people don't know Japanese Daikon. You grind a White Winterradish and after that you press the water out of it.
Fish with Daikon
In Japanese Cuisine Daikon is used very often for fish dishes, for Tempura dishes you put Daikon and Shoga into the Sauce. If you eat it with Fish you put a bit Soysauce onto the grinded Daikon. I like Daikon with fish, as you don't put the Soysauce directly on the fish and the Daikon gives it a little spicy taste.
Ever had Daikon with your Japanese Food ???

ABOUT ME: Some insides into my Steemit life
I haven't tried daikon but I'm going to see if I can get some and give it a try especially after reading the comment about toxin removal, hope that's true :)
it probably is true ;)
love the simplicity of the dish
you cooked?
nothing beats home cooked
should be unplugging now and hitting the bed
must be morning where you are if you're in Japan
Have a great day
I'll eat daikon and fish in my dreams tonight hihihi
I had daikon in korean pancake, in chicken adobo, yup, I did it. On top of a grilled salmon, I also put it in a okonomiyaki. Spring rolls oh and Vietnamese pork roll. So versatile this daikon.
Now I have to check if we can get daikon over here in Finland :)
just check your supermarket. in most europena countries you can buy it.
Daikon is a fantastic vegetable. Until my wife started preparing it regularly I had little experience with it. In fact, probably only at a restaurant with fish like shown in your story.
My favorite way to eat it is raw, sliced in thin strips in salads. It's also nice with nikku jyagga. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it helps clean the body of toxins. That's what my wife tells me anyway.
Lastly, the flavor is not like that of any radish Westerner's are use to. While occasionally, depending on how it's prepared, there will be a bit of heat, it usually doesn't have any. Making it different from our spicy radishes.
didn't know it clenses the body. thats even better
Japanese eat's fishes more than anyone in the world. Fish on grill looks really mouth watering,.
