Philippine Food Store in Roppongi Tokyo ASIA YAOSHOsteemCreated with Sketch.

As I was in the US Navy I met a lot of people from the Philippine. I have to say that they are some of the nicest people you will meet in your life. I will dedicate this blog to the big hearted Pinays and Pinoys in Tokyo/Japan. If you see me on the street just say ‘what’s up bro.’ I wanted to write this blog because I have met many Philippine people in Japan but none of them know about this store. I thought to myself, ‘what a tragedy.’ If there was an American store in Tokyo I would like to know. So let’s get started.

I have personally been to the Philippines three times; twice in Manila and once in Cebu. Philippine culture has mixed with Spanish, Japanese and American culture throughout history (NOT BY CHOICE) so I actually kind of feel very comfortable around Philippine people and their food.

Asia Yaosho is conveniently located in Roppongi near the Philippine Embassy. They have a ton of products from the Philippines and some American/Spanish products that have sneaked their way into Philippine culture. A friend of mine who is from the Philippines actually showed me this place a few years ago.

Green bananas

There are many varieties of bananas and I used to eat green plantains as a child. Either fried or mashed and made into a dish called a pastel. The green plantains in Japan are really expensive but I think you can use these as a substitute.

I am not really sure what these are but the label said they were from China. They are eggs though.

Skippy peanut butter on the left!

If you don’t know already, it’s kind of difficult to get American peanut butter in Japan. Japanese peanut butter is kind of strange.

Spam and other canned foods.

I have to admit that some of the Philippine canned food did not suit my pallet, but I was happy to try something new.

TANG AND OVALTINE!!!

Where can you get either of those in Japan???

Frozen meats, fish and ice cream

Frozen meats, fish

Crackers

You can have lunch here for very cheap, but it is only on the weekdays from 11am to 3pm. Please refer to the photo below for more information.

PORK RINDS!!!

Instant noodles and sauces

personal hygiene items

The shop is kind of hidden, so you have to know where to look.

If you know Roppongi you will know that Donkihote is across the street to your left on the right side from this shop

They also have a catalog which you can order things from by case or individually
