The christmas kings of sweets in Spain!! What are yours?
Hi steemians!!!
Since I was very Young, diferent chritsmas and new year’s customs arround the globe have drawn my atention. It’s interesting how some traditions are very strange for foreing people as well as perfectly normal for locals.
Of course, I always keep an eye on everything related with food.
So, I’m going to share with you two of the most traditional christmas sweets we eat here in Spain.
Some of you might konw them allready, but I’m sure some other not. Spain is the first world producer of this products, and a lot is made for export.
Here is the Spanish icon of christmas, the King of sweets on this days: Turrón.
Sure, there are a looooot of modern variations, and all kind of new staff (that are not even turrón) but the traditional ones are two:
-Turron duro (de Alicante) (hard)
-Turrón blando (de Jijona) (soft)
Both of them are quite similar, ingredients are the same (honey, sugar, egg and almonds) but in the soft versión everything is crushed and mixed, and in the hard is kind of separated.
I can tell you both of them are sooooo good for me, I can even tell you wich one i like more…
There are some more nice versions, like guirlache, chocolate or yema, but for me the real authentics are those two.
And in the other hand, the second tipical spanish christmas sweet, not being even sweet, or at least is really less sweet tan turrón… Polvorones (o mantecados)
Here there is a wide variety of flavours as well, lemon, coconut, sesame, chocolate…and many more, but tipically the regular one is made from flour, lard, sugar, almonds and cinammon.
As this is a thick food, a funny tradition is to eat one straightaway and try to say Pamplona or Zaragoza (name of two spanish cities) without spread all over the place.
We have a lot more tipical sweets for these days, but i think those are the most popular and common, and neither of them are missing in a single home in Spain during this days.
I hope you like the post, and have learned something interesting… I would love to know of your country’s tipical foods, so leave a coment!!
Have fun!!
