How To Cut a Mango like a Pro
3 Super simple ways to cut a Mango like a Pro
Cutting a mango is super simple, just follow any of the 3 methods below to start cutting like a Pro.
If you have any previous experience with a mango, you know there is a flat seed in the center of the mango. You may also know the skin of the mango can be a little tough, so a sharp tool is the best tool to use when cutting a mango.
Let's get started with some prep:
- Grab a sharp clean cutting knife.
- Grab your clean cutting board
- Wash the mango thoroughly.
- Make sure to use clean utensils and cutting board. If you cut meat or seafood prior make sure to clean well first.
#1 how to cut a mango into cubes
Place your ripe mango with the stem facing down onto your cutting board. While holding the mango upright place your knife slightly off center to one side or the other of the widest part of the mango. Repeat and cut the other side the same. You will be left with 2 halves of the mango with the center-left being mostly seed that can be discarded at this point.
Next, pick up one of the mango halves and make parallel cuts carefully not cutting into the mango skin. Turn the mango and cut another set of parallel set of cuts creating a checkerboard pattern. You can choose how large you want your cubes to be when creating each set of cuts depending on what your recipe calls for or what purpose you are using the mango for.
Finally, you can take a spoon and scoop out the cubes removing them from the skin. You can also turn the mango skin inside out by pushing in the middle of the outside skin pushing the center up and scrape the cubes off the skin. Both ways work well.

#2 how to cut a mango into slices or spears
Following the same method from above, cut your mango into 2 halves and discard the center seed portion.
In step 2 simply make the first set of parallel cuts at the width you want your spears to be.
Scoop out your slices with a spoon.
Often times, spears or slices are used for dipping when the mango is still firm. In the Filipino culture, these spears are often cut when the mango is still sour and dipped into a shrimp paste for a unique un-fruity experience.
#3 how to cut a mango using a mango cutter.
Place your mango stem down on your cutting board. Place your mango cutter in the center of the mango with the widest part of your mango to the outside of the cutter. Sometimes a mango skin can be quite tough. If your mango cutter is having a difficult time penetrating the mango skin without squishing your mango, simply take a knife and make a starter cut where the cutter will start to cut into the mango skin.
Next, simply push straight down on your mango cutter separating the mango into 3 sections. Discard the middle seed section.
Finally, use one of the 2 methods from above cutting your mango into your desired cubes or spears! Enjoy your mango!
You can find a mango cutter in select stores or more easily on amazon.

Great post. We had a discussion at work a while ago about how to cut a mango. We were trying to repeat the first method, but it got kinda messy. :)
Ahh yes, cutting Mangos sometimes can get messy just takes practice :)
