But do you know that some of the honey substances that are sold at our local supermarkets are not pure at all. Some of them are cooked and modified. There are also a few of them that are diluted with water and just added with commercial sugar. These modification of honey is very dangerous for people who have blood sugar problems. Pure honey has an outstanding health benefits as many of us already know about it. However, when it is already modified, it can already be bad at high consumptions since there are other ingredients that are added to it, like sugar. 1. “Pour a teaspoon of honey on a glass of water.”
Explanation: Pure honey is denser than water. It is immiscible with water. Hence, if you pour a teaspoon of honey on a glass of water, then it should not mix with water. It should not affect the color of the water too. The teaspoon of honey should just settle down at the bottom of the glass of water.
2. “Put the bottle of honey inside the fridge.”
Explanation: Put it inside the fridge for 24 hours. Then, check if it crystallizes or if it contains ice crystals inside. Pure honey doesn’t crystallize otherwise, it must have been added with water.
3. “Pure honey shouldn’t have a list of ingredients in its content.”
Explanation: Pure honey are produced by bees and have been made by natural phenomenon. Ingredients such as ascorbic acid, food coloring and sugar are plain indications that a particular honey product is not pure at all and thus, it is not as healthy as you think it is.
4. “Pure honey doesn’t have expiration dates.”
Explanation: As mentioned on the introduction of this post, sealed pure honey doesn’t spoil and can even last for thousands of years. Thus, if your bottle of honey has a printed expiration date then, it is not a pure honey. It is a modified honey.
5. “Get a matchstick and dip it once on a teaspoon of honey. Wipe it with a dry cloth and ignite the matchstick. It should light up.”
