Today's Sustainable Feast in the Garden of Eden
It is another great day in the Garden of Eden, and we are giving thanks for more than enough of everything in this abundant life of freedom!
We made a delicious feast for our volunteers today, and because we have below freezing weather we prepared the food indoors on our wood burning stove rather than on the rocket stoves of our sustainable outdoor kitchen! We stayed nice and toasty, had a fantastic meal, AND heated water for showers for super sustainable efficiency. As usual, there was more than enough food for everyone, and we are happy to share our abundance with you!
Today we made a hearty feast!
We started with our glorious garden salad! We started with a bed of mixed greens and piled it up with sliced peppers, red onions, earthy beets, crispy snow peas, and juicy strawberries!
We made a spiral sliced honey backed ham in a deep dutch oven. This is plenty of salty, sweet, tender ham to feed all the meat eaters in our whole community!
We made a very deep, complex, flavorful sauce to serve on the side. We combined raspberry ginger jam with cranberry sauce, pineapple, cinnamon, clove, and lemon Thai basil! Condiments like this are a simple way to completely change the flavor of a dish and meal; a little dab of this on a bite of ham makes a much richer taste experience.
We made another dutch oven full of sliced potatoes, carrots, and onions cooked in heavy cream and melted cheese all over the top. We sprinkled on a little bit of chopped herbs to brighten the color.
We set a small bowl of raw chopped garlic in olive oil on the table for anyone to dress any dish they wanted with an extra pop of flavor and plenty of healthful compounds.
Finally, we made a pot of broccoli cheese soup to complete the meal. Soups are an especially wonderful way to stay warm this time of year!
We sprinkled each serving with a generous portion of shredded cheddar cheese.
We had a fantastic, sustainable feast for our whole community, and everyone had plenty to eat!
Look at that selection of bright colors, textures, and flavors! It was a great, wholesome, well balanced meal that everyone thoroughly enjoyed.
Food is important, and we hope to inspire people to really take time to eat, enjoy it, and share it with someone you love. We also hope to inspire more and more sustainable practices in regards to food!
