Instructions:

  1. Prepare the crust: In a large bowl, combine the flour and cold butter cut into small cubes. Use your hands or a fork to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Add the sugar, salt, and egg, and mix everything together. Gradually add cold water until the dough comes together. Form it into a ball, wrap it in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Prepare the filling: Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin rings. In a large bowl, mix the apples with sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Stir well to coat the apples evenly.
  4. Assemble the pie: Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 3mm thick. Place the dough into a tart pan or pie dish, and trim any excess around the edges.
  5. Pour the apple filling into the crust, spreading it evenly.
