Anyone close to a teenager knows that they can quickly eat you out of a house and home. A teenagers body is working over time to develop into adulthood, and their lives are often filled with with demands from sports and the classroom. It is important that teens receive a healthy amount of daily protein and these two shakes can help your teen do so in a simple and healthy way.

BUT FIRST! Let's find out more about protein for kids and why you may not want to use protein powder for them.

How Much Protein Does a Teenager Need?

Proteins job is to assist in the growing and repairing of the bodies tissues and muscles. Proteins also give your body the amino acids that are necessary for your body to make important insulin and growth hormones. Knowing this, makes it clear just how important it is for teens to get enough protein.

There are a few factors that influence what constitutes a healthy amount of daily protein for a Teenager. Such things as gender, height, and weight, should be considered when understanding the right protein amount for a Teen.

On average, between age 14-18, a teenage girl needs to intake 46g of protein daily, while a teenage boy needs 52g. However, if the teen is a very active, they should consume more.

Is Protein Powder Safe For Teenagers?

When thinking of ways to up ones protein intake, many of us instantly think of protein powder and protein bars. Yet somewhere in the back of their minds, parents may ponder if protein powder is good for kids. When it comes to teenagers, it's important to think twice before grabbing such options. The general consensus from health professionals is NO!!!

It is not recommended that children or teens take dietary supplements as a way to get their protein. Such supplements are not closely regulated by FDA, and the clinical trials conducted for most of them are not tested on teens. This means that no one really knows how such supplements can affect your child. While TeensHealth reports that athletic teens may need more protein than those who are not athletic, most teenagers are able to reach their recommended amount of protein per day, through a well balanced diet.

A simple way to help ensure your child is getting enough protein is to make healthy protein shakes without powder. Enjoy this quick video where I make some protein shakes for my athletic teen.

Steem on!

This is so yum! I can include this in my diet plan. However, we do not have raspberries and blueberries here in our country. Do you maybe know what's the best alternative?

Absolutely! The berries are more for flavour without high calories. So any similar fruit would do. What’s a popular fruit in your country and where are you from ?

I am from the Philippines, we have a lot like bananas, mangoes and others but we don't have much berries here. Thank you for the tip.

Yummmmm! I definitely am going to try these recipes! Also you two crack me up! <3
