Bulk Cooking: Single Serve Oatmeals

in #food8 years ago (edited)

Starting with something quick and simple, but SUPER efficient:

Single Serve Oatmeal + Fruit

Frozen Oatmeal

The recipe part of this isn't the focus, this is about the life hack of making it in bulk and having it ready when you're making breakfast.

First: I make a big batch of oatmeal the way I like it: oats, water, a dash of salt, vanilla extract, a bit of sweetener. I follow the instructions on the oatmeal. (You can do minute oats, steel cut, gluten free, whatever is right for you, so follow package instructions).

Oatmeal Fruit

In muffin tins, I place frozen fruit of my choice. Sometimes I do a variety of berries, mango, and anything else that sounds good, sometimes I really just want strawberries -- and ONLY strawberries. I do dice up the fruit a bit so it spreads further.

Drop the fruit into the muffin tins.

About 2 heaping tablespoons worth. Not taking up a lot of the cup, but covering the bottom.

I fill the rest of each cup with the cooked oatmeal and place in the freezer.

Just like that.

Frozen Oatmeal

Once frozen, they're perfect little single servings. Quickly transfer to ziplock bags, or your container of choice, and

Pop them back in the freezer.

Single Serve Oatmeals

To serve, I place one in a bowl and into the microwave for 2 minutes. When it comes out, it's nice and hot.

I add a bit of homemade almond milk to make it creamy and cool it down a bit.

bowl of Oatmeal

Once prepared, I add or tweak depending on my mood. Most days I slowly stir in a scoop of collagen.

What a great idea! Making a big batch of oatmeal and saving portions for later is so efficient. The fruit on the bottom is a nice touch!
