The best cake you've ever eaten...
Just want to present you the best cake you've ever eaten... This is a speciality from my country, the Brittany, in France! You all know that French cook is one of the better on earth no? =)
So what's the name of this wonderful and beautiful cake?? In Breton it's called "Kouign-Amann". The english traduction could be "Butter cake".
I let you imagine the ingredients.. ;)
A little of History
It came from the city of Douarnenez, in Brittany. It was created by mistake by a baker in 1860. His name is Yves-René Scordia. Great man, trust me... ;)
It's a difficult cake to make. For the story, this baker wrote on his bakery "Could make it who want, could succeed who can".
So, do you accept the challenge? ;)
How to make it?
Ingredients ??
So as "Butter cake" means, there is butter, a lot and a lot of butter...
But there also is sugar, a lot and a lot of sugar...
and a little of bread dough too !
More seriously, for 4 persons you will need :
- 125g of butter (half salt of course ;) )
- 125g of sugar
- 125g of floor
- 6g of Baker's yeast
- a pinch of salt
- a pinch of sugar
- 10cl of water
The preparation
So, 1st step :
In the first side, put the flour into a bowl. In the other side, put the 10cl of water into a little bowl with the pinch of sugar and warmed a little (20s with the microwaves (750w)), then put the yeast into the water.
After that, put the water with yeast and sugar on the flour and blend with hands to have a bread dough. This bread dough must not stick on fingers, if it stick, add some flour.
After, let it rest during an hour
2nd step
Now, roll out the dough in a disk of 25cm. Then, add the butter in little piece and recover the entire disk with. Then spread the butter on the dough. But be careful of making hole on the dough!
3rd step
Cover the dough with 1/3 of sugar and fold one side to the center, and the other, and the other, and the other!
You have to make the step 2 and 3 two more times!
But do it slowly to not make hole on the dough.
4th step
Then, make a ball with the dough and roll out again, but slowly. Then, put it on a baking paper and into a baking dish. Make it rest about 3 hours
5th step
Now make it on the oven 180°C during 25 minutes, don't forget to preheat the oven at 180°C during 10 minutes ;)
It will be crispy on the outside and fondant on the inside... Yum!
