Introduction to the Works of Farm1st
Farm1st doesn't really have an online presence, so we wanted to share with you what they are working on so that you can better understand why we have partnered up with them.
Farm1st is active not only in Korea, but also in advising in initial farm set-ups and production all around the world. This post focuses on a work-in-progress project in Central Asia.
This small circle represents a 50~100ha farm. It is a typical example of farming to grow grain and forage crops, where water is raised from below using pipes in the center and spread across using sprinklers. The land is to be cultivated in 10-year cycles and the circle will be moved to an adjacent location after its 10 years.
Often, the Middle East or Central Asia is known to have poor agricultural environment, but there are many areas where large-scale business farms have developed. It is a developing economic situation where abundant underground resources are used together with staggering national support.
Farm1st is brought on to a project with the mission of installing a large-scale export-oriented agricultural complex. First to be around 10ha and to be expanded to 100ha. As a work in progress, various land samples are being screened via Google Earth as well as with NASA's agricultural statistics.
What to look for:
- +10ha of flat land
- minimum seasonal impact
- nearby a town that has water resources, roads, and other labour
Production can be predicted by looking at average temperature, clearness, number of wet days, and other environmental conditions. Such weather data is free from NASA and by paying a little fee, you can get your hands on the most recent data.
ATFS sees value in such work and expertise. Together with Farm1st, we are confident that global expansion of our smart farms in the long run will be of ease. Furthermore, we have hopes to diversify our portfolio of produce with the data we gather from farms all around the world.
Until then…
