• Add water

• Blend

*Now seive the chaff out

*Scoop out the milky part

*Pour into a bowl and cook on low heat

• Let it cook until you have the oil

*Seive into a plastic and store

Now your palm kernel oil is ready for use

In most states in Nigeria, people uses palm kernel oil as their major cream . At the street were I stay , an elderly woman sales Palm kernel oil every weekend for the past 5 years ,she has been so dedicated to this business... .The introduction or development of Morden palm kernel merchine like screw presses and oil extracting merchine likely occured with the advancement in science and technology, the women in the local community were manually cracking their palm kernel nuts using stone, they then had this stones in their home I must say this was a difficult task since they Will need much strength to carry out this task and in most cases it takes days to finish the cracking process pending on the amount of palm kernel oil they might be looking to achieve. Today, thanks to technology, it has made it easy for men and women, we can now produced Palm kernel oil right from our kitchen.

##Personal experience

In my experience of producing palm kernel oil, apart from the ease I've making it right from my home I had challenges namely power supply, I could count how many Times I was interrupted while blending my Palm kernel in fact it took me hours to finish the amount of the Palm kernel you see in the photo above I was so determined to finish up so I patiently waited up even at night fall for power supply so I can blend my palm kernel.. finally I was able to blend .. I know I could have used my Generator but I didn't have one Thus I hoped on NEPA. In my locality were I leave in Calabar, power supplies are often rationed Thus once my street is opportunied, I make sure I do everything I've to do with light , finally my Palm kernel oil was ready but again I had a challenge I AM extremely careful when it comes to standing by a gas cooker for long therefore I sorted for another means... Our local kitchen were I used firewood to heat my milk onto oil .. I had to wait for a couple of minutes for my heated Palm kernel oil to cool off before I could seive. Thus palm kernel has various uses but the production process can be challenging of course especially for those without steady power supply and for those who's home aren't condusive enough since you are going to be heating the already seive milk into Palm kernel oil.

#Home methods of preservation

When you are heating your palm kernel oil, you have to be very observant so as not to allowed any strain of water remain inside since water can not mixed with oil this will be very possible to detect, you just have to check. Palm kernel oil can be preserved in a plastic container that has a tight cover
When we allowed water stay inside the plastic container it might start have smells and that way it's not safe because it might go bad etc.
Keep In a cool dry place

##Uses of palm kernel shell,

You likely must have asked yourself this question right, interesting.. at home we use palm kernel shell to set fire because it was considered to be a waste but today, palm kernel shell is contributing to our environmental sustainability..

It's also used to make building materials

It could also be converted into activated carbon for water purification

It could be used as feedstock for gasification

It's also use for construction ,

It's used as an organic fertilizer to improve soil quality for cultivation of crops

It's used in controlling erosion.

It's used for road constructions

It's used locally to set fire during cold season.

am sure we have those who could be shocked to realise that something we were once careless about, had a great used and can sustain us, interestingly during our primary school days our mothers will always asked use to put them under the sun since it will be useful later for setting fire... In some occasions when we are out of it, my my aunty will asked us to go fetch more from the bus were we had a palm try plantation, I personally enjoyed that experience .
