One of the best days of my life

in #fishing8 years ago

This was from the day I went fishing at Manhattan Beach Pier. Keep in mind, the fishing day was slow and I was using a big hammer swimbait. There was no action. Then when I was getting ready to leave, a rare fish bit my lure last second.

I caught a California Halibut! These fish are rare to catch from the pier and I have never caught one before ever, so this was my first halibut. When I was reeling my swimbait, I felt a big thump, then I set the hook and reeled it up. It fought pretty hard for its size. And when it came up, I thought it was a calico bass at first because they are easier to catch with swimbaits and are more common around the area. Then when it came up, I saw it was flat. Then in my head, I was praying that it would stay on the hook and it did. When I reeled it up I was screaming in excitement due to the fact it was my first halibut and I caught it on a lure, as well as the fact that no one was catching anything on the pier. It may not be the biggest, but I was happy to catch it. I was safetly released and lived another day.
Here is the lure i used:
