RE: Possible replacement for the M16 for our troops.

Nice, this is a rail gun. The recharge time for the caps will govern the rate of fire. he is getting a good velocity for a home made rail gun. These (with enough power) can be nasty! I saw a demo of one that fired a plastic pellet through a steel plate. these will become main battery weapons on ships and tanks, as the technology matures and our portable power sources gain capacity.

It will not be boring for sure!

But this new unit uses conventional 6mm ammunition fired electrically. It allows this weapon to fire very quickly. They claim 250 rounds per second, BUT It must be 250 Rounds per minute; because the casings must be handled in groups of four! This would mean that four rounds could be moved, fired, and ejected in 0.016 seconds. This is not reasonable, so I am sure that this is supposed to be per minute!

I have seen this before, and it is a Nasty weapon! The rate of fire is amazing too.

This one is under test as a shoulder fired infantry weapon, and it shows some real promise. With the magazine feed, it is a lot slower, but can be reloaded quickly. I would like to see it in 6.5mm or more, to correct the too small round we have been stuck with for decades.

I do think the barrel block that contains the quad bore, needs heat sinking to retain accuracy during sustained fire use. Those two changes would make a near perfect battle rifle, IMHO.

If they could figure out case-less rounds, it would be a true quality rifle!
