Today we want to talk about what you need to do in case of a chemical accident or traumatic accident to the eye. The first thing you do could be the deciding point between further damage to the eye as well as a potential scar that may affect your vision and a chance to continue to see.

Chemical/Traumatic Injury

In the case of a chemical injury, the first thing that one needs to do is to irrigate the eye. This must be done with running water to ensure that the chemical doesn't stay on the eye whiles irrigation continues. Do this with a copious amount of water until perhaps the burning sensation that may have been associated has subsided.

This pain or burning sensation may be an indication of damage to the cornea cells since the cornea is extremely sensitive it would present with lots of pain and redness of the eye. The next thing you need to do after irrigation is to visit the nearest eye care facility or center for evaluation of the damage and the necessary treatment to ensure that you do not end up with a scar and a permanent loss of vision.

Conclusion

Kindly avoid over-the-counter medication if you wish to keep your vision, do not sit for more than 24 hours before you seek to consult do so right away after the irrigation and you may have just saved your sight. Your doctor may give you some pain meds and some antibiotics for prophylaxis to prevent infection and any other treatment that may deem necessary.

Thanks for your time once again and we wish you the very best.
