Into the light - Paintings by George Clausen
Hello dear Steemit friends ! My choice for today in the series " To Honor Old Masters " is Sir George Clausen, born 1852, plein-air figure and landscape painter of scenes of rural life, both in oil and watercolor.

Clausen was born in London, a son of a Danish sculptor. He attended the South Kensington School in London with great success, later he visited Holland and Belgium, exhibiting his first picture at the Royal Academy in 1876. He also worked in Paris under Bouguereau and Tony Robert-Fleury at the Academie Julian.

After Clausens return to London he began to paint the life of the agricultural labourer. Strongly influenced by Bastien-Lepage, he worked out of doors and was preoccupied with the effects of light, but at the same time retained solidity of form. He was especially interested in figures seen against the sun and spent much of his time in Essex sketching agricultural life.

In 1895, Clausen was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy and in 1904 Professor of painting. He also published ''Six Lectures on Painting ' and ''Aims and Ideals in Art''. He died at the grand old age of 92.

did not know this artist ... his paintings are so real., The second one in particular I like a lot ... to an excellent technique with oil painting
The second painting, ''The Girl at the Gate'', brought Clausen wide repute. He painted this picture at the village Cookham Dean, where he lived and Mary Baldwin, the Clausen family’s nanny, modelled for the woman at the gate. Thank you for visiting my Blog !
