Will James Cameron stop talking smack about Wonder Woman? The answer may not shock you...

For those who don't know James Cameron, he is just one of the greatest directors out there. He directed: The Terminator, Rambo: First Blood Part II, Aliens, Terminator 2, and two of the highest-grossing films of all time Titanic, and Avatar. Among others. Oh, and he also jump-started the whole 3D bullshit (sorry not a fan). Basically, the guy has some shit under his belt. However, for some reason, he can't stop ranting about Wonder Woman. In an interview with the Guardian last month I think he stated that Wonder Woman was "good" but not "groundbreaking" leading up to, the movie "over sexualizing" Gal Gadot, and that its praise was "misguided". What the fuck, right?

Let's start this shit.

So I want to start this post by asking. Is James Cameron becoming senile? If you are wondering why I'm asking this question, is because, yesterday, once again, Cameron defending his previous brain fart, said to the Hollywood Reporter:

“I’ll stand by that. I mean, she was Miss Israel, and she was wearing a kind of bustier costume that was very form-fitting,” “She’s absolutely drop-dead gorgeous. To me, that’s not breaking ground. They had Raquel Welch doing stuff like that in the 60s.” - Ok, let's take a pause here for a second, so you, the reader - like me - can google who Raquel Welch is....did you do it? Cool, me too. Now, how the fuck are you going to compare an actress from the 60s, a time when women were ten times more objectified and only a short amount of them, actually got parts in their respective movies if they were viewed as a sex symbol instead of their actual acting prowess,to the highest-grossing movie of this summer!!

(She is actually quite talented. I was just making a point)

Moving on, from this ridiculousness he defended his claim by adding that he was comparing Wonder Woman to Sarah Connor played by his ex-wife Linda Hamilton in Terminator 2 which he said her sexuality was "downplayed". Here is exactly what he said in his comparison (I'm sorry, I swear after this one there is just one more than I'll start talking shit):

“She wasn’t there to be liked or ogled, but she was central, and the audience loved her by the end of the film. So as much as I applaud Patty directing the film and Hollywood, uh, ‘letting’ a woman direct a major action franchise, I didn’t think there was anything groundbreaking in Wonder Woman.” LETTING a woman?! Jesus Christ man.

Arrrgh for fuck sake JC. What are you on about? First of it seems like when you were watching Wonder Woman you had a raging hard-on, and simply remembered one of your first boners which were probably delivered by Raquel Welch. Second of all, I remember being a kid in Brazil and watching T2 for the first time and I'm pretty sure your ex-wife had a pretty fucking steamy sex scene which coincidentally gave ME my first boner since it was the first time I saw boobies in a movie.... Anyway let's talk about this "not groundbreaking" statement for a second, shall we?

These are the records Wonder Woman has broken since its release this summer (Jun, something):

  • Highest-grossing movie this summer domestically (as in the US).
  • Highest-grossing Superhero movie with a female lead and director, (domestic and worldwide) surpassing Iron Man 3 and Batman V Superman as well.
  • Highest-grossing movie directed by a woman (higher than the ones by one of your ex-wifeys Catherine Bigelow lol).
  • The highest rating movie in the DCEU.
  • The first female-directed film to reach the top 150 movies of all time.
  • Earning $816.3 million worldwide so far.
  • Currently sitting in the 20th place among the highest-grossing movies domestically.

Explain this to me, Mr. Cameron. How is that not "groundbreaking" for women within the industry and outside? You like to talk about strong female heroes in the cinema, such as Sarah Connor (T2) while for some reason forgetting Ripley (Aliens) and you seem to truly believe that for a woman to be viewed as a hero on the silver screen she has to be messed up in the head and dress and act like a dude. I mean I can easily compare Sarah Connor to John McClane (Die Hard) but what I don't understand is why Wonder Woman wouldn't be viewed as a hero because she is well... sexy, I'm pretty sure that while it may not be a hundred percent relatable to women out there, the fact that Gal Gadot had sex appeal but still was strong and independent to the point where she made Chris Pine, look like the damsel in distress who had to constantly be saved, is way better than having a female hero acting exactly how a man would while being in that particular position. Men are men and women are women, and one thing that Wonder Woman did prove to both audiences is that you can still be a beautiful female hero with flawless hair and kick some motherfucking ass. What's next? You're going to compare Superman and Thor to Arnold Schwarzenegger and say that they aren't realistic compared to a fucking android from the future. Pretty sure you are just making these comparisons so you can promote the upcoming Terminator movies you are producing, but hey that’s just me. Just go back to directing the next million Avatars you are planning to make...fuck outta here.

That’s it, another complaint from me. I'm Ped, Podsr, whatever you wanna call me. Let me know what you think down in the comments below, upvote if you wanna upvote, suggest anything you want to hear my shitty opinions on. Have a good day, I'm gonna go have a beer.

PS: Cameron did state that he liked the fact that Wonder Woman had the sexual "upper hand" with her male counterpart, which to me sounds like he is into some dominatrix shit, but hey make your own opinions about that ;). That’s it see you later. Peace.

PPS: Raquel Welch was in an episode of Seinfeld I was watching just now.
