Dick and Jane Part 4

The rest of the day went smoothly… All thanks to Jane. Instead of the usual grumbling the trio endured from their customers, they actually saw relief and smiling faces. Jane transformed their apprehension to security, and each one of them walked out with a wide, confident smile that they could get back to work without incident. Dick was in awe.

Jane had stepped out to use the restroom when Simon pulled Dick aside.

“Listen man,” he said. “I know that you just got out of a relationship, but you need to get back out there.”

“I saw you guys glancing at each other today,” added Herman. “At least get her number so you guys can figure this out.”

“You guys are right...” Dick said, “I want to, it’s just… I’m not sure I’m ready.”

“You guys aren’t getting married tomorrow or anything,” said Simon. “Just go on a couple of dates. See what happens.”

The two went out with several boxes for the dumpster while Dick opened up some more laptop boxes and set them up for updates over the weekend, hoping the job would be easier for the next week.

Jane came back in on her cellphone. It sounded as if she walking someone through on their new computer… Probably flirting with her… ‘Don’t get jealous, Dick. She’s not your girlfriend.’

Dick took his box cutter and continued to open boxes while he half listened to Jane’s conversation--not so much to eavesdrop, but to determine when he could ask her for her phone number.

“Next you have to right click on the file and run as administrator… Well you should be able to install, but we have some restrictions on other things… If you give me a second I can remote in.”

Dick stood up after plugging in the laptops into the outlets. He cocked his eyebrows at her.

She rolled her eyes and covered the phone. “They’re having trouble with installing Jibberish,” she said smiling.

‘She has a beautiful smile,’ he thought and went back to work, jacking the computers into the switch and making sure the network ports were all flashing.

She was still on the phone, typing away on her computer and chatting on the phone with her new best friend. Dick smiled at the thought and leaned back in his chair to play on his phone.

He checked his phone; it was time to leave. Simon and Herman must have been long gone. Dick looked up to see that Jane was still on her phone helping the same customer.

‘Fuck…’ Dick thought. So he pulled out a piece of paper and wrote a message:

I think you’re cool. Here’s my number: 555-6254

“OK, I almost have you set up sir,” Jane said, while her fingers tapped on the keyboard. She looked up and smiled as Dick placed the note next to her mouse. He smiled and waved goodbye.
