Aerilon Chronicles: Police Investigation
Sebastian Bently
A truck would quietly pull up outside a small, suburban street in downtown Aerilon. From the passenger seat emerged a Sergeant Sebastian Bently, adjusting his beret and glancing around as he shut the door behind him with a rather loud slam. The street had been sectioned off by the Aerilon City Police Department using Police vehicles and tape. The bulk of the tape and cars had been set up outside the closest house on the left side of the street from where Bently was standing. He approached the Police line, taking out his ID ad holding it up. "Sergeant Sebastian Bently, Anti-Supernatural Division." He'd announce, getting a nod from one of the officers who raised the tape for the larger man to duck under and wander passed towards the house. He'd walk up the small staircase leading to the porch, hands burying into his pockets along with his ID, no longer needing it. Sebastian could already see brief flashes of cameras through the Living room window, each flash giving off a faint red tint of light due to the smears of blood on the large window revealing the home's Dining room.
Bently stepped through the front door, slipping by a Forensic officer who was in the middle of leaving the scene.
"Who's in charge here?" Bently called out, catching the attention of those around him with his rather deep, flat toned and British voice. That was always a stand out in Aerilon for him. His somewhat ‘posh’ London accent was like a sore thumb in this City with how it made him stick out.
"I am." Bently would hear from upstairs, looking up to see a slightly wider man walking down the stairs, extending a gloved hand once he reached the base of the stairs and stopped in front of Bently.
“Detective John Aron.” The grey haired man would say, shaking Bently’s hand.
“Good to meet you Mr. Aron. I’m Sergeant Bently, ASD. I’ll be here to assist in examining the scene and taking over the investigation if necessary.” Aron would nod, letting his hand fall to his side before gesturing to the Dining Room beside them.
“Follow me then, Sergeant.” Aron led Sebastian into the dining room, which was a horrendous sight. Blood was splattered up the walls, pooling on the wooden floor beside the corpse of a young woman, throat torn out.
“This is Annabelle Fletcher. Mother of one, recently divorced.” Bently would slowly nod as he listened to Aron speak.
“Right. Any news on the child?” Bently would ask, turning his head to look at Aron.
“No. Forensics suggest that the Daughter was in the home at the time of the attack, however we don’t know where she is. Possibly abducted.” Aron would go on to explain as he started walking back to the stairs, leading Sebastian up them
“We have a squad car heading to locate a Mr. Fletcher now. First thoughts are the ex husband being somehow involved, though with the particularly gruesome way this assault was played out, it is rather safe to assume that we could simply be dealing with an Oddity.” Aron stopped talking as they walked into what was clearly the room of a small girl. Sebastian pulled a hand from his pocket, walking over to the bed and crouching down, looking over the bed for a few moments.
“Time of death?” Bently asked, looking over the bed as he pulled back the covers, now examining the mattress properly.
“Neighbours heard screaming half an hour ago.” Aron replied. Sebastian would look down at his watch. It was 11:15PM.
“How old is the daughter?” Sebastian asked, getting a quick response from the Detective standing in the rooms doorway.
“Thirteen, Sergeant.” Bently nodded, running a gloved finger over the mattress.
“Well, the covers on the bed are rather neat. No signs of a struggle in this room and with the look of the bed, our child clearly wasn’t leaving it in a hurry. It’s very likely that our missing child was familiar with whoever the attacker was, therefore did not panic or rush out of bed. If so, that means our attacker got in through this room, or got to the child before being seen by the Mother.” Bently would slowly stand up, turning on his heels and looking to the doorway.
“I would guess that our killer snook in upstairs, moved with the child down the stairs to leave through the front door but was spotted. That means the kid trusted our suspect. So, yes, I would say that the Father is our likely suspect here.” The Detective nodded, taking out his notepad to jot down a few notes, looking back up when he was done.
“However.” Bently continued out of nowhere. “The window in this room is locked, and if I’m correct in assuming…” He’d walk over, budging passed the Detective and slipping from room to room upstairs, checking all the windows.
“These are all locked too. Either they magically teleported through locked windows or got in some other way.” The Detective nodded, looking over his notes.
“No signs of forced entry downstairs. All the windows downstairs are locked too leaving the front and back doors. Back door was locked so the Suspect must have gotten in through the front. They were allowed in by the Mother.” Aron would ramble on as Bently stood at the top of the stairs, looking down at the front door.
“Meaning, again, our victims know our Suspect. Rather closely. Ex Husband, perhaps. Though depending on the condition of the Mother and Father, I highly doubt he would be let in willingly. Statistically speaking of course, Divorced couples aren’t usually that friendly.” Aron would cut Bently off with a suggestion.
“Unless he had his own set of keys.” This made Sebastian nod.
“Perhaps.” He’d then walk down the stairs, crossing his arms over his chest and looking around. “Well, Detective. Continue the investigation, call for me when you have more leads. Specifically when you have news on the ex husband.” Bently looked back to Aron, who would nod his head.
“Yes, Sergeant. Understood.”
