‘Hi….. Yeah, I am alright…did you have dinner, well dinner and lunch combined?…. Good… Goodnight’ I ended the call. I didn’t for a moment think that anything had happened to her. I mean there are more than 240, 000 living in this area. The journalists are going to have a blast lambasting the council for not looking after the bridge.

I switched off the TV and headed back up to my messy bedroom. There were all sorts of electronic devices, bits of paper, wires, empty and half empty Doritos bags, empty plastic bottles(well mostly Doctor Pepper bottles – The Americans do make great soda), little bits of food, and numerous unidentified objects lying here and there on the floor and on the furniture but leaving a cleared path without any waste starting from the door to the bed. I liked to call it the de-littered zone until I realized it was not clever at all. Anyway, I plumped into my bed having forgotten to brush my teeth or wash my face and tucked myself under the duvet on my bed.

I tried to sleep but the bridge story was still on my mind. Seldom did anything on the news happen so close to me. Of course, it doesn’t help that I had slept all day and spent the previous night playing vidya. The bridge was less than a mile away from the park with the small pond. So I did a google search for the bridge incident- well even if it was so close I would forget it in a week – a list of names of the victims came up.
