Masquerades Love Selfie too

It was during our new year visit to Bakassi, my maternal home. Bakassi is a peninsula on the Gulf of Guinea. It lies between the Cross River estuary, near the city of Calabar in the west, a boundary between Nigeria and Cameroon.

We were all full of smiles as to start the year together as a family. My beautiful cousins and their sense of adventure jumped around the vicinity.

Then came three masquerades to say hello to the family. Later one joined, making them four.

Hello masquerade, can we take selfie please.. And he pose for it. I was excited! Masquerades are known to be Scarry creatures. But this was our compound, we had welcome the masquerade and they had expectations to leave with a fat purse too.

We left for calabar later that same evening. I may not see masquerade again till another Christmas or new year when we will visit the village again.
