In ancient times, salt had a religious significance. Due to its qualities with which it is possible to preserve, store, clean and give power to taste, salt has become a symbol of eternity and value, and has been equated with deities. What is sprinkled with salt will not perish and will not decompose.

Already in the Old Testament, salt is classified among the basic needs of human life. Since ancient times, salt was extracted in the Dead Sea. It was the main component for trade in Palestine and, therefore, was valued and always present in people's lives.

In our biblical text, salt is an example of special value, which describes the intrinsic value of a person, and whose loss would be the loss of all that is valuable.

Light is the opposite of darkness, as well as the physical root that makes the world visible. In an ethical sense, light is the opposite of everything bad and sinful, namely: light is justice, truth, happiness, joy, warmth and freedom.

Children do not always hear enough praise and positive statements addressed to them. Do you love me Did I do everything right? Yes!

Children live in a world that is becoming increasingly difficult and less safe, which demands a lot from children when everything that needs to be done to adapt to this world is dictated.

On the contrary, children often have the experience of falling out of this system without sustaining it. Then, the positive expression *“you are salt, you are light” can become curative, compared to the experience that a child has acquired in a society of high requirements. Children always need support and inspiration: they accept you, you are valuable, you are good, you are light and salty. And the more specific, the more understandable.

This biblical example is very understandable for children, since it will contain in itself what children from the beginning of their lives accept for themselves. What they can try and what they can see.

Unsalted potatoes are not tasty, and a small light next to the crib dissipates all fears in the dark night.

Explain to children what it means to be salt, to be light, with examples.

Salt is important, as is the small screw that holds the ship. Its power is to preserve, to flavor. And a small ray of light can pass through the darkness so we can navigate. With the light, it becomes light and warm. We are salt shakers and fireflies.

You are the light of the world. People need light and heat to live. Therefore, the sun is the oldest symbol of humanity. Now we will make a sun so big for our room that it reminds us that we can be the light in this world.

Cut a large circle (40 cm in diameter) from the large cardboard sheet, as well as the rays. Write in the rays what it means to be light (help, visit the sick, love, be friendly ...).

So that your sun may be suspended and may be spinning, write on the reverse also what it means to be light. Then paste the same circle on the back. And in the rays you can hang figures of salt shakers (men). Cut them out of bright colored cardboard. Then paste and sprinkle with salt. The salt shaker is ready!
