This plant species is a tree that could reach between 10 and 16 meters high, so it is classified within small trees. Its branches are thin and grow and are distributed in a tortuous manner, while its trunk is thin with a smooth, grayish-brown bark.
The leaves of the rose apple tree are simple, elongated, they measure 25 cm long and their width is 5 cm, they are bright green and have very marked ribs. For its part, the flowers are large in size, their color ranges from white to yellowish white. They appear in groups of 2 to 8 flowers, each one of them is conformed by 4 rounded and concave petals and 4 sepals, also, rounded, nailed in a turbinado calyx.
The fruits of the rose apple, appear 4 months after the florescence. These fruits have a shape similar to that of an apple or a small pear. Its color is a pale yellow and pink sparkles. This fruit is extremely meaty. It has an aroma and flavor similar to roses, hence the name.
HABITAT DE LA POMARROSA
It is believed that its natural habitat of development, was originally the Malay archipelago and all of northern Myanmar - ex Burma - but it is a fact that its development extended to all areas of tropical and humid climate of Asia. There are records that, in India, this tree was considered and known one 500 years before our era.

HOW TO CULTIVATE
it is multiplied by fresh seeds, but if it is desired to obtain good fruit it must be multiplied by semi-woody cuttings with background heat or also by grafting, on feet obtained by seeds, for the varieties. It requires fertile soils, better with organic matter, and lighter. It goes well in the sun or in the shade.
In high areas, the species requires a fertile soil; it grows very slowly on eroded or nutrient-depleted soils and usually can not be reproduced on dry sandy soils.
The trees reproduced by layering can produce fruit in a space of 4 years.
WHAT IS IT FOR:
I read from different sources on the web that the root is used as an effective remedy for epilepsy.
According to Standley, powdered seeds are used in El Salvador as a remedy for diabetes.
They eat raw fruits, in jams or in jellies because they have a high nutritive power; They are rich in calcium, iron and niacin. The rose apple is planted in many regions as an ornament tree and the wood is excellent for firewood and charcoal.

We have loads of these here in Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand. Here we call them "chompuu" which literally means 'pink' in Thai. Just coming into season now. I slice them into salads - a lovely contrast to tangy rocket. & we juice them! They are soooo juicy & always cheap so we use them for a juice base. Lovely post! 💚
