Global policy statement on child protection
British Council is an international organization from the UK that provides educational opportunities and cultural relationships.
We believe that child protection requires everyone to be responsible, and therefore every child is valuable.
We recognize that the care, protection and welfare of children is paramount, so that all children have the right to be protected from any harm.
We also recognize that we have a fundamental duty of attention to all children where our programs and operational facilities are related to children or have an impact on children.
This includes the task of protecting children from danger or danger because:
abuses by staff or co-workers with poor practices and inadequate delivery of programs and operations.
We aim to achieve this by complying with UK child protection legislation and relevant legislation in each country where we operate and referring to Section 19 of the 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).
A child is defined by the British Council as an individual who has not reached the age of 18 years (UNCRC 1989) regardless of the majority of the child's age set by the country where the child is located or in the country of origin.

Respect, respect and listen to children Ensure all necessary checks are taken when recruiting staff Maintain strong child protection systems and procedures for staff Train staff and bridge the same understanding to child protection issues to inform planning and practice Share information about child protection and practices both with children and parents / carers. Share information about concerns with relevant institutions and engage parents and children appropriately Provide effective management of staff through clear processes, oversight and supportWe will provide sufficient and appropriate resources for implementation this policy and will ensure this is communicated and understood
