Keywords & Bullet Descriptions

Keywords are not completely essential in selling your Merch shirt if your research and t-shirt design is exceptional. Sometimes you may get lucky and may be able to sell many shirts without any keywords other than your brand name and title. However, to achieve the $1000 or more goal within 4 months, it is essential to include proper keywords throughout every Merch design upload. Your keywords may be the deciding factor for a design of which the customer is unsure about purchasing. Proper keywords can also help you rank higher in search terms.

In this post, I will be covering how to write your bullet descriptions or “key product features” and what to include in them. You do NOT need to include any writing in your “product descriptions” as this has, with in-depth research, proven to only waste your time and not help in your ranking or amount of sales. You will only have two available paragraphs, so it is vital that you use it to your advantage. The other paragraphs or bullet points will be filled in automatically by Amazon and will vary slightly depending on which t-shirt fit you select. You can see this yourself by clicking on any Merch by Amazon t-shirt and looking at the description (under the Size). The first 3 and last bullet point (if bullet descriptions are written) are automatically filled in.

For your first paragraph description, include keywords which are featured on the Merch designs of your competitors and of your niche. This could be from the title or the two bullet point descriptions. About 5 unique keywords in the first paragraph is what you're aiming for. Sometimes, the “hot-selling” 300,000 BSR or below shirts you are looking towards out-competing may not have any keywords whatsoever. If this is the case, come up with keywords of your own. Use words which describe your shirt, who you think your target buyer would be, and other similar words to the shirt you are uploading. Use a thesaurus if you must. Include the words: "Makes a great gift!" On your first paragraph, as many customers search for the keyword “gift” after their previous search term.

Start with the title of the t-shirt (paraphrased if need be) on your second paragraph description with "order one size up for a looser fit" (or something very similar) in the last sentence. The shirts Amazon prints are made to be fitted and customers may complain about this and leave you a bad review, of which you can do little about. On your second paragraph, write a short captivating sentence to further capture your customers desire to buy. Use more unique keywords if possible. An example of this for a funny t-shirt could be: “Buy this comedic tee now to make your friends laugh!”

You should never include keywords which are not related to your shirt and you should not keyword stuff your t-shirt design listings. Amazon generally dislikes this, and customers may choose to not purchase your shirt because of this. Sometimes this works, but I would not recommend it. Never talk about the shipping speed, quality of fabric, or anything out of your control or the shirt may be rejected. Refer to Amazon’s Merch guidelines for more specific details. All Merch designs, if you don’t already know, have Prime shipping, which is essentially two-day shipping for Amazon Prime members.

Sample Bullet Description Paragraph Guidelines

I will be basing my examples on the previous Practical Example section with the “Life is Good Tennis” t-shirt phrase with the title of the shirt as: “Life is Good Tennis T-Shirt.”

Bullet Description #1:

Template:

2 Keywords with an introductory funny/interesting/relatable sentence. 2-3 sentences with keywords closest to those of your competitors and niche. “Makes a great gift!” as final sentence.

Example:

This is the perfect t-shirt for any tennis, racquet playing game lover who is obsessed with tennis! Celebrate your love for tennis, at a casual or professional level with this tee! A great athletic tennis and ball shirt. Makes a great gift!

Bullet Description #2:

Template:

Title of the t-shirt (paraphrased if need be). 2-3 keywords in one short sentence. “Order one size up for a looser fit” as the final sentence.

Example:

Life is Good Tennis T-Shirt. A great shirt for any tennis fan. Get one now for your friend, family member, or partner! Order one size up for a looser fit.
