How much STEEM does an absolute passive investor make in 78 days?

78 days ago my dad told me he wanted to invest into Steem.

My dad has no interest in writing blogs or curating content. He just wants to invest.

He never believed in the platform until he learned through me about Steem Monsters and their business model (selling cards for money). This was something in his world he could understand and it sparked interest.

I bought 5000 euro worth of STEEM for him right then and there.

I powered it up and put it into two projects 50/50: Smartsteem and the rising (they both give a decent ROI).

Let's see how he did so far and I think it's fun if I update this once every 3 months or so.

How did he do in STEEM?

If Steem is a currency then it would make sense to see how much more STEEM he has now.

Because we started from Euro I had to go to BTC first and then STEEM. It took some fees.

78 days ago 5000 euro bought 12,800 STEEM.

He now has 13,024 in STEEMPOWER (+224 STEEM) and 384 LIQUID STEEM (+384 STEEM).

In total: +608 STEEM or +4,75% in 78 days from the starting point.

602 STEEM ( x 0,26 euro) = 156 euro.

How did he do in Euro?

Because STEEM went down compared to the euro he could have bought more STEEM today for the same amount of money: 20385 STEEM.

This is what his floating loss (it's only a loss when you sell) is:

12,800 STEEM + 580 STEEM = 13380 STEEM.

13380 STEEM (x 0,26 euro) = 3478,80 euro.

A current floating loss of 5000 euro - 3478,80 euro = 1521,20 euro.

Conclusion.

It's easy to say that in hindsight he should have bought today to get more STEEM.

But that's always easy in hindsight. Buying at the absolute bottom is impossible in my mind and nobody knows where that is even now.

All I know is that If STEEM goes back to 37 cents at some point in the years to come he's break even. And this number will come down with time because he will accumulate more STEEM.

I was surprised to see how much STEEM he had accumulated already by doing nothing. If this keeps up he will make 2700 STEEM in a year. Which is about 20% from starting point.

Next report in 3 months!

Very cool info and analysis!

I do scattershot delegations but have slowly been adding delegation to @ocdb in part for the excellent ROI. It of course varies a bit from day to day but the preliminary number crunching I’ve done suggests that its yearly ROI is somewhere in the range of 20-22%

Posted using Partiko iOS

Thanks for letting me know. That's nice ROI.

It's always good to verify :) You can use https://www.steemprofit.info and type in delegator name in the top right corner to check the APR.
@ellis.marell - 13% average for the last 30 days.
@anonsteve - 18% for the last 53 days which is pretty much max for voting bot, as far as I can tell.

Snapshots from the last two days during which I had 500 SP delegated:

Yesterday earned 0.255 Steem. Over 365 days, that works out to 18.6% ROI.

The day before, 0.302 Steem that works out to 22.05% ROI. Also got 0.004 SBD that day.

Edited to add: And today’s payout of 0.297 works out to 21.67% ROI.

You're one of the smartest businessman I know on this platform, putting the 5000 euros worth of steem into smartsteem and the rising for your dad, wow 78 days and wow, look at the returns wow, honestly it's awesome the prospect of steem, this is an eye opener

Maybe introduce him to projects that return ROI without taking a cut. ;)

I wish there where projects on the blockchain already that offer a better ROI on (delegating) STEEM for passive investors than bid bots.

I haven't found any. If you know of any let me know.

Imho, the first project that offers a better ROI on delegation than bid bots will kill the bid bot industry instantly.

Not that I was aiming to promote it but check out @ocdb, it's more of a distribution bot than a bid bot though. It has a queue and only votes at 100% VP with a fixed return to whitelisted authors and takes no cut, meaning it's fully non-profit.

Thanks for letting me know!

afaik @boomerang pays 100% as well

That's a lot more interest than he would have got when he had put his money on the bank! (besides the lower price of Steem of course!)

That is true, but he would have had more euro's :). Only time will tell if STEEM was a good investment. But you know me, I think it is.

Of course, Steem is a good investment. We just have to wait a little longer!

How did he earn interest? Did you delegate the Steem power to these projects and they paid a lease fee?

Yes, delegation. Smart Steem and The Rising are promotional services (or vote bots).

This is what the earnings look like on a daily basis:

@exyle I’m interested to know what broker you used to transfer Euro to bitcoin. I’m from Ireland . I use Coinbase but find the transfer costs extortionate. What’s the go to broker in the Netherlands ? I am hearing kraken is cheaper ?

I have send euro's to kraken many times, and it's by far the cheapest I have found. For convenience I also use bitonic.nl to buy BTC but it's Dutch only I think.

It seems likely that a lot more Euro will be printed in the years to come. There will be more Steem too but its a relatively small amount and we know about it. Having seen how close the Euro came to collapsing in the banking crisis and during the Greek debt crisis, it surprises me that people are happy to stay 100% in the Euro and not even risk 1% in cryptocurrency. That's not being negative about the Euro, most fiat currencies are probably much more risky than people think. Cryptocurrency is risky too but at least we can do research and see how it works, we know very little about how the fiat currencies will be managed in the future but it seems highly likely that the printing presses are going to be kept busy.

If you expect the Euro to actually die and be replaced by going back to local currencies, it makes sense to buy the Euro and deposit that in Germany. If large investors believe that, the Euro would go up in value (as it has been doing) BECAUSE it is expected to die and their Germany deposits would shoot up in value when converted to German local currency.

Just a heads up - you can use https://www.steemprofit.info/ to compare ROI from delegations.

Just take note that some services, like @smartsteem allow users to keep their profit on the @smartsteem account and make the payouts manuallly or every few days which may lower the presented APR. Cheers!
