Evergreen playlist track for today is by Lauryn "L.Boogie" Hill, a former member of the now defunct musical group, the Fugees.
I Feel Blessed!
That Thing was released in 1998 and is the lead track in Hill's first solo album The Miseducation and it went on to peak at number 1 on the Billboard top 100.
The song is a warning of some sorts to African-American women we instead of maintaining that they are gems and precious, pretend to be hardcore, slay queens, cheap ladies and what they are not, thereby ending up in trouble and becoming single mothers; and the men who instead of getting an education or skill, are concerned with looking buff with six packs and muscles, and also being the men with the most number of ladies laid and children.
Growing up on the streets kinda opened my eyes to see how young people always choose to make mistakes than doing the right thing. They worry about keeping up false appearances instead of being real and live as the kings and queens they are.
"That thing (sex, crimes, criminality, falsehood, gang wars, stripping, gun running, drug dealing etc)" is what many live for as against the true meaning of living life as a proud and intelligent human. We must never get carried away with "that thing" that leads nowhere but anguish. There is so much more in us if we can just take a moment to make good use of our talents.
Make the world a better place for someone today!
Your last paragraph just made me recall a though I had yesterday seeing so many prostitutes (I think) and 'bad boys', on my way from the market in the evening. It is so easy to be influenced and carried away with 'that thing' so much that we need to be very conscious and cautious of how we live our lives
Boss @ejemai just keeps, keeping it real in his post..
The world is just so full of fakes, lies and deceitful people, what makes it worse is that they are unwilling to put effort to work in other to achieve their desired life...
Your posts are just straight and simple truths...
Very accessible to reality and reasonableness in life, false ideals are worse than drugs. Great clip!
I love music, music is my passion
