I put my patient file on the blockchain. Here is how i did it.

in #ethereum7 years ago

Feel free to download my patient file. It is stored on the ethereum blockchain. Forever.

I got worried, very worried by the ransomware attack on hospitals last friday. I don't trust centralized, poorly maintained windows infrastructures and i don't want my valuable, personal information to get in the hands of a script kiddie.

So, i asked my doctor to hand over my EPD (electronic patient dossier/health file) and stored it on serveral computers using bittorrent technology.

( It's a small file as i am living quite healthy).

After encryption, i hashed the file. The hash is

BTO6KGT5QPDVH2QERWEJKKPA33W23V4GS

converted to hex (required by ethereum).

I opened the brilliant metamask wallet, and sent my linux computer 0.1 ether with the hash of my encrypted patient file as the attachment (payload).

And here it is. The transaction with the reference to my patient file on the Ethereum (ropsten) network.

Available for everyone to see.

Everyone with resilio sync (formerly known as bittorrent sync) can download AND duplicate my patient file now.

Please do so.

I secured my data. It will avoid ransomware attacks since the data is stored on serveral computers on a decentralized network.

The hash is registered stored on the blockchain and cannot be tampered with.

I feel more comfortable now, but this isn't the way to go forward. My information should not be stored on legacy computers, central servers or cloud providers.

I want to take the lead and get control over my personal data.

To be continued.
