What Is Blockshipping?

Blockshipping GSCP is a blockchain based platform that has the opportunity to save the freight industry billions of dollars by creating a global container registry and a greybox container ecosystem.

Blockshipping will use the global registry to record ownership information and track location of containers worldwide. This technological breakthrough can make the greybox concept a reality.

A greybox system is one where a shared pool of containers with no names is owned by many different groups. These containers are then managed by a single system, in this case, Blockshipping GSCP. The platform will utilize data collection, location data, and AI analytics to create a highly efficient container management system.

A greybox ecosystem reduces unnecessary trips, reduces pollution, and creates additional opportunities for saving via the use of smart contract automation. The article below discusses the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats to Blockshipping GSCP.

Strengths.png
The strengths of Blockshipping GSCP are the two token ecosystems and team's experience in the freight container industry.

The two token ecosystem consisting of the outward facing, tradeable CCC token, and the internal only CPT token, is unique and addresses many issues pertaining to industry level use of blockchain products.

The team has opted to use CPT token for all internal transactions and is pegging the value to $1 USD. This internal token is minted when purchased and burned when used, and this process can happen indefinitely creating the ability for unlimited use by industry.

The internal token creates value for CCC token holders because each transaction sends a portion to a revenue-sharing pool. The revenue share is divided amongst CCC token holders and the cryptocurrency is tradeable on exchanges.

The team has a high level of experience in the shipping experience with deep experience with Maersk Shipping line, AP Moller, and DHL. The business is also located in Denmark, the 7th largest sea freight shipping location in the world and the home of Maersk.

Weakness.png
The largest weakness of this project is the long roadmap which includes four phases. Phase I is currently ongoing and includes the main features of the platform. This phase is expected to launch in Q1 2019.

The additional three phases do not indicate timelines but include the truck appointment system, greybox 3rd party app, AI-based forecasting tools, flow optimization, and the hardware sensor that tracks IoT data, CO2 emissions, and pricing models.

Opportunity.png
The platform has the opportunity to save the industry over $5.7 billion USD through a variety of methods. In addition to cost savings, it's estimated that GSCP could also help reduce CO2 emissions by 4.6 million tons per year.

When taking a closer look at savings opportunities they can be categorized into six different groups.

  • Container Repositioning - Blockshipping can help save $3-5 billion per year by matching surplus containers with those having a container deficit.
  • Carrier Haulage Ratios - Due to insufficient container inventory use shipping Carriers are losing haulage jobs to Merchants.
  • Steet Turn/Triangulation - Containers are making unnecessary trips to and from ports. With Blockshipping containers can be routed more efficiently since they are "grey boxes".
  • Container Fleet Size - By routing containers and matching surplus/deficit more effectively Blockshipping can reduce the size of the container fleet required by up to 20%.
  • Business Process Costs - Through the use of smart contracts many operations carried out by off-site operations centers can be automated.
  • Cost of Building New Containers - By creating a registry with real-time location tracking Blockshipping will reduce the need to purchase new containers that often require high-interest financing.

Threats.png
The largest threat to Blockshipping GSCP is that the global freight industry moves at a snail's pace when it comes to technological changes. For example, the ability to modernize and automate ship unloading and transfer exists but has not yet been implemented in the busiest container port in the world, Los Angeles.

Blockshipping must use their contacts and experience to work together with shipping lines and container owners to build a network of greyboxs that can reduce costs for everyone.

Competing blockchain alternatives are also a threat although there are not any that offer the full suite of functions that Blockshipping does. Many see the announcement of the Maersk and IBM blockchain partnership as a threat but Blockshipping is addressing a completely different problem.

If the Maersk/IBM blockchain is found to be successful it will open a door for Blockshipping to introduce their project to additional stakeholders.

Very good news, good luck continues for those of you who share this news @mcdfrom

Thanks. This platform has a lot of interesting features. I like how it is purpose built for industry with a stable coin as internal currency.
